The first firearms in Plover, Wisconsin were pistols and rifles. The town was founded on the Bad River in 1853 by Augustus Dix. In 1857, a store called “Gunsmiths” was opened in the Town Hall building. A rifle shop called “Dixon Rifle and Pistol” was also established in that year. This business continued until 1865 when it closed because of the American Civil War. In 1868, a post office was started in Plover with mail delivered to other towns in Dane County. In 1870, a hotel named the Good Hope Hotel was built and operated until 1902. In 1903, a school named the Plover Schoolhouse opened which lasted until 1954 when it closed due to lack of students. In 1907, an oil well was drilled near present day Plover and began production yielding natural gas which led to new development around that area including growth of industry such as manufacture of automobiles and radios. In 1916, an ammunition plant was established at what is now downtown Plover by Wm Ransom & Sons munitions manufacturers with operations continuing until 1951 when it merged with Brownells Company to form Brownells-Hawkins Corporation. It wasn't until 1949 that they made their first gun purchase from outside of America after opening up a small arms showroom at the old Post Office Building on Main Street in downtown Ploversville which has been open ever since!

It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area and is bordered by Racine to the west and Kenosha to the east. The town was founded in 1837 by John Plover and his family. The first post office was established in 1839. The name "Plover" originated from John Plover's nephew, who named a stream after him. A school district was organized in 1845, and a hospital opened in 1865. In 1916, plovers were introduced to North America as game birds for use in hunting duck, goose, or quail; they have been kept as pets ever since. According to the United States Census Bureau, PlOVER has a total area of , all land. As of the census released in 2010, there were 5,633 people residing in PlOVERtownship: 4,393 White (85% of population); 326 African American (4% of population); 198 Native American (1% of population); 2 Hispanic (1% of population); 1 Asian/Pacific Islander (0%, 0% of population).

In the early 1800s, a group of settlers in what is now Plover, Wisconsin started to clear land for a farm. They named their farm “Leavenworth” after one of their founders. The first crop that was grown on the farm was wheat, but it wasn’t very successful. The settlers decided to try another crop and they grew corn. Corn is a very important food in America because it is the most common type of grain used for cooking and eating. Corn was also used as money because it could be bought and sold like other goods. The farmers continued to grow crops and make money, but they didn’t have enough money to buy bread from the grocery store so they started making their own bread. This became known as “Plover Bread” because it was made by taking all the corn that had been grown on the farm and making it into flour. People in Plover were happy with this new way to make money because there weren’t any other ways to make money back then. In fact, until World War II, no other country in North America ever built up such an economy using only agriculture!
The first Plover settlement was in 1847, and the town was established in 1851. The first post office was opened in 1852. In 1865, the town became a part of the newly formed Milwaukee County. The population increased rapidly during the late 19th century, and by 1915 there were over 2,000 people living in Plover. The early 20th century saw a decline in population as a result of World War I and II, but by 1970 Plover had grown back to its pre-war size.
