Bipedalism has been present in Plover, Wisconsin for over 100 years. The first bipedal humans were found in the area in the 1870s. The first bipedal animals that lived in Plover were dogs and cats. After a few decades of testing, it was decided that dogs and cats could not be trained to walk on two legs like humans could. So, the local government set up a program to create a new kind of animal that could walk on two legs like humans could- the dog/cat bipedalist. This new type of animal was named after the town of Plover, Wisconsin- the Dog/Cat Bipeds project. From this project, we have learned how to train dogs and cats to walk on two legs like human beings can. Over time, there have been many changes made to our relationship with bipedals- from helping them when they are lost or need help getting around, to providing them with education and support when they start living their own lives as independent animals. In 2018 alone, thereportedly about 16 bipedalians living in Plover- an increase of 10% from 2017. These apes are vital members of our community and contribute greatly to its culture and economy.

Famed Plover, Wisconsin archeologist and professor emeritus of anthropology at University of Wisconsin-Madison, was born inupper Michigan on October 14th, 1915. After graduating from college he moved to what is now Plover, Wisconsin in the early 1950s. He worked as an assistant professor at UW-Milwaukee before becoming a full professor in 1969. His work focused on ancient Native American sites throughout the Milwaukee area and northwestern Illinois. In 1984 he was elected president of the Society for American Archaeology.
