The name "Pleasant Prairie" likely comes from two early settlers: James Pemberton and his wife Hannah (née Smith) Pleasant, who came to what is now Pleasant Prairie in 1847 from Tennessee. The first settler there was Isaac Shrivell, who arrived in 1851 and named his farm after his friend Joshua Smith, an American Revolutionary War general and member of Congress from Virginia. The post office called Pleasant Prairie "Jupiter", "Discovery", "Hilton", and finally "Pleasant" in 1857. The current spelling was adopted in 1893 when it became part of Racine County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of 2010, there were 7,471 people living in Pleasant Prairie municipality including 1,724 households and 2,873 families residing within the incorporated boundaries; while within unincorporated Racine County there are 10 villages with a combined population over 10 thousand people that make up Racine County's rural areas; these villages are as follows: Argyle village (1,542), Blue Earth village (2,247), Brown Deer village (3 surveys/4 residents), Craneville village (1 survey/8 residents), Dells Village(629), Englewood(1 survey/2 residents)/Barre(3 surveys/9 residents)), Greenfield(2 surveys/10Residents) & Ionia(1 survey/4 Residents). With respect to race only white non-Hispanic citizens made up over half the population according to2010 census count with black citizens making up just 9% or less

Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin is a small town located in the town of Green Bay, Wisconsin on the east bank of the Fox River. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area. The first people to live in Pleasant Prairie were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1836. They started out farming and then built houses. The first store opened in 1837 and it was called The Canadin Store. In 1846, a post office was established and it was named Pleasant Prairie after Captain John Pugh, an American Revolutionary War veteran who had served as a commander in Canada. In 1863, Pleasant Prairie became a town because it had been annexed by Green Bay. A sawmill and gristmill were built there soon after; these mills helped to create demand for goods produced by other businesses in town such as lumberyards and breweries. In 1902, one of Pleasant Prairie's two churches (the other being Congregational) was dedicated and it remains today one of the most prominent buildings in town. During World War II, many residents worked at local manufacturing plants such as Waukesha-based Learmonth Paper Products or General Electric Company during wartime production cycles which required long days with no rest or leave allowed - sometimes up to 10 hours per day! Pleasant Prairie was first settled in 1854 by farmers from the town of La Crosse. The town was named for apleasant Grove on the east side of the river, which had been given to them as part of a land grant. The town grew quickly, and in 1872 it became a city. In 1904, Pleasant Prairie incorporated as a village.
