Pleasant Prairie started as a farming community in 1871 when settlers from Illinois moved into what is now Clear Lake Township on the eastern edge of Milwaukee County. They named their community after Pleasant View Farm east of Chicago where they had relatives living. The first post office was established in 1872, and by 1880 there were nine villages in Milwaukee County with similar names: Appleton, Arlington Heights, Beloit, Brookfield, Cedarburg, Clyntonville, East Troy (now White Fingertips), Green Bay (now Racine), Herndon Heights (now Allentown), Pleasant Prairie and West Allis (now Waukesha). By 1890 there were more than 2200 residents in Pleasant Prairie (). As part of an effort to increase agricultural production during World War II (), local farmers set up collective farms that grew corn, beans and other crops such as potatoes and sweet potatoes; hunted game; constructed ditches and canals; built roads;and dredged channels to improve shipping routes. Some people also worked at local munitions plants during wartime(). By 1970s most residents had retired or left for other communities in Wisconsin or Illinois because of economic changes brought about by increased automation within industry and decreases in demand for farm products nationally (). However some families still maintained farms near their homes until the early 21st century (). The current population figure reflects growth since 1990 primarily due to births rather than deaths although some older residents have moved away due to changing conditions or new opportunities available elsewhere (). Inion Manufacturing Corporation () dissolved on October 16th 2006 having been acquired by Montero Industries Incorporated (). On November 15th 2006 it was announced that Montero Industries Incorporated would sell its assets including Inion Manufacturing Corporation to Grupo Higasa SA for $6 million cash plus an unspecified amount worth future royalties over 25 years . This move will create about 300 jobs with plans for continued operations . The company closed its doors after 119 years

Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin is a small town located in the town of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Manitowoc metropolitan area. The first residents of Pleasant Prairie arrived in 1855 and were farmers. A post office was established in 1870 and the name changed to Manitowoc in 1875. In 1907, a railroad station was built and the town became known as "The Dells." The population decreased until it reached its current size in 1960. The first school in Pleasant Prairie was opened on October 15, 1860 by Mrs. Catharine Houghton. In 1865, one-room schools were built for students in early settlements such as Pleasant Prairie and Manitowoc. By 1870, there were three schools open: one for girls (Mrs. Lavinia Clemens), one for boys (Mr. James Aspinwall) and one for children between the ages of six and twelve (Drury School). In 1903, all school districts within Door County unified into the Manitowoc County School District #2 which included Pleasant Prairie along with other villages such as West Bend, Menominee Falls, Racine and Mequon Rapids among others properties within its boundaries including those now within Green Bay city limits serving as racial minority wards or rural areas that did not have public schools offering instruction towhite children from kindergarten through high school age; this unification increased enrollments at all district schools by 50%. At that time also a new high school building with an auxiliary gymnasium/library complex was erected on North Main Street east of present day Senior High School campus adding about 2 acres (.8 km²) to original Town lot site providing more than enough space to house all elementary street buildings annexing Junior High School classrooms adjacent thereto; thenceforward known as “New Senior High” being developed primarily by white businesses citizens philanthropists teachers parents civic leaders grade school social workers Nursery Teachers Holy Angels Catholic Girls First Congregationalist Second Congregationalist Third Lutheran Women’s Auxiliary United Methodist Women – Sisterhood Noelle Fenton President Supervisor
