The First World War artillery target known as "The Grapes" was located here and is still in use today. The Grapes was first used during the First World War as part of an artillery exercise called "The March". The exercises were conducted across the United States to improve army morale and prepare troops for combat. At the time, guns were muzzle-loading cannons that fired projectiles through a tube that traveled along a track to hit a target at a distance. During The March, cannon crews fired two rounds each at a grapevine-like structure called "Pointer's Well". Each round would travel about 150 feet before it impacted the ground near where it was aiming. To ensure accuracy, cannons were kept calibrated against targets located miles away. After The War, "The Grapes" became something more than just an artillery display. It served as both a training ground and shooting range for local farmers and their children who enjoyed playing around its confines. In 1949, the state of Wisconsin allocated $10,000 towards restoration of "The Grapes". This money went towards making sure that thetarget remained in good condition and would continue to be enjoyed by people from throughout southeastern Wisconsin until it finally reached its current state in 1992. A few years after reaching its present form, “The Grapes” underwent additional restoration which included new fencing, climbing ropes (to keep kids safe),and new exhibits that tell the story of how this important target evolved over time."

Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin is a small town located in the now-defunct rural community of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. The population was 2,083 at the 2000 census. The town was organized in 1854 and named for Captain John C. Pleasant, an American Revolutionary War hero and local landowner. The first settler in the area was George Hildebrandt, who arrived in 1856. replaced by Isaac Sibley in 1860. By 1870, there were 9 houses and 24 residents living on what is now Main Street. In 1881, Pleasant Prairie had a schoolhouse with 10 students and a teacher; it closed in 1984. In 1909,Farmers’ Market Day was celebrated here with a picnic lunch served outdoors on the square front lawn of the Methodist Church south of town. A flagpole bearing an American flag flew from each house until noon that day to show support for the event which included games, music and refreshments provided by locals and visitors alike. In 1951, when Rural Free Library opened its doors to the public in Pleasant Prairie after years of fundraising effort by Mrs John Fenton (wife of local banker John Fenton), it became one of only three libraries open to everyone within 30 miles (48 km) of Milwaukee County (the others being Waukesha and Racine). By 1960 census estimates,[2] there were just over 100 people living in Pleasant Prairie[3] including about 30 farmers who raised hay or corn on their property.[4] However during that decade many farms closed due to difficult economic times while other businesses such as shops closed because they could not compete with larger towns offering better services such as zoning changes that made building more than one store possible without breaking city ordinance requirements forbidding "residential uses" within 500 feet (150 m) of any school or social service center).[5] The few remaining businesses preferred smaller town competition because they did not have to worry about ordinances prohibiting them from expanding beyond their current limits.[6] By 1970 most residents continued farming while some moved into larger towns but many remained close friends since agriculture was their mainstay even though death rates among men had increased significantly due to hisnia problems brought on by working so much wide-open space[7]. By 1980 only 1 resident still farm operations although production has dropped slightly since then due to technological advances leading to improved Rudolph's processing technology making it less expensive for farmers globally who are able to sell products directly to consumers instead of through large retailers like Walmart which dominates this market segment

Pleasant Prairie is a town in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Pleasant Prairie were Captain James Armitage and his wife Sarah on May 3, 1836. They were among the first to clear land in what is now Walworth County. Captain Armitage named their new settlement "Pleasant Prairie" after a meadow he found while exploring the region. The first post office was established in this community on October 6, 1837. The first store in Pleasant Prairie was built by Wm Fenton on December 4, 1848. He operated it for about two years before moving to Green Bay. Another early store operator was Elijah Couch who also opened a grocery store in Pleasant Prairie from 1850-1851. The railroad arrived in 1854 and Railroad Avenue (now called Main Street) became a main street in that year when the Milwaukee Road extended its line through the community from Racine to Pewaukee. By 1865, all but one of Pleasant Prairie's seven stores had been built and more than 50 people lived there full time or part time during those years. When Milwaukee annexed Racine into the city in 1870, much of rural Walworth County fell within city limits and so did Pleasant Prairie; however, some residents retained their original namesakes until they were moved out of town following annexation by Milwaukee proper. During World War II many residents left town for military service or because they could not support themselves without work; however most returned once hostilities ended and amenities such as housing improved statewide In 1960 Pleasant Prairie had only 666 residents remaining when it merged with nearby Oak Creek to form the present day Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek/Pleasant Prairie
Pleasant Prairie is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Pleasant Prairie was originally called "Dundee" and was platted in 1836. In 1846, it changed its name to "Pleasant Prairie" after the donation of 103 acres (39ha) of land from John Q. Adams to the town.
