The first mayor was also the first African American to serve on a United States municipal government in America when he served as mayor of Pleasant Prairie from 1870-1872

Pleasant Prairie is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin that was founded in 1854 by members of the Davenport and Appleton families. The town became a city in 1907, and has since grown to include an adjacent village. Pleasant Prairie is located on the east side of Green Bay, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Milwaukee. The population was 10,471 at the 2010 census. The first settlers to what is now Pleasant Prairie were farmers who arrived in 1822 from Massachusetts. They named their farm "Pleasant" because it had a very pleasant climate for growing crops. There wasn't much land available so they started trading with other villages for goods they needed such as flour and cattle. In 1830, one of these traders, James Halsey, built a cabin near what is now Pleasant Prairie on the site where he would later grow his business empire as a farmer and political leader in nearby Davenport
Pleasant Prairie is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Pleasant Prairie was platted in 1836 by Alexander Berry and James Laughlin. The name may be from "pleasant," meaning good or pleasant place. A post office was established at Pleasant Prairie in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first settlers were farmers who came to the area from Illinois during the 1830s for land grants that would become part of Racine County. In 1836,Berry and Laughlin surveyed a township which they named Pleasant Prairie after their home state of Illinois. By 1840, most of what is now Pleasant Prairie had been settled with about 175 people living there. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many soldiers camped near Pleasant Prairie on Long Island Sound because it was close to where they were needed on the battlefields around Milwaukee and Racine County. Some residents donated food and clothing to these troops during the war effort. In 1865, when Wisconsin became a U S territories following its admission into states as late as 1861, Pleasant Prairie became a part of Green Bay Territory within Green Bay Municipal District No 2; however it did not become an official municipality until 1915 when it merger with neighboring West Allis Township Incorporated under the same name to form present day Pleasant Prairie Village Council Incorporation via annexation from West Allis Township on May 8th, 1922
