Pleasant Prairie is a small town in the town of Menomonee Falls, in the county of Winnebago. The population was 1,611 at the 2000 census. It lies on the eastern edge of Milwaukee County and is bordered by Racine to the north, Tomahawk to the east, and Waukesha to the south. The first people who lived in Pleasant Prairie were local tribes who hunted game near what is now Menomonee Falls. In 1836, John Sells and his family moved from Wisconsin Rapids into Pleasant Prairie after purchasing land there from Alexander Hamlin. They built a house on present-day First Street. The Sellses remained in Pleasant Prairie for over 50 years before moving away again in 1892. In 1893, Chicago investors Jens Hagemeier and Henry Ford bought 640 acres (240 hectares) of land northwest of Menomonee Falls for $10 per acre. They named their new tract "Pleasant Prairie" after their home city—Chicago's most fashionable neighborhoods at that time were located thereabouts. Ford developed it into a large agricultural community with dozens of houses, some dating back to 1894–95 when he began leasing them from farmers for use as tool sheds and other buildings during his hemp production operations nearby. He also constructed a church on one site where he later sold it to the Methodist Church for use as an education center; today it is called Methodism United Church of Christ – Pleasant Prairie Campus). Many residents here remain familiar with SEEK – or “see something else” – which became one of Ford’s trademarks because so many objects found around here could not have been produced by humans but only by nature over time (paint cans filled with leaves are good examples). After World War II ended and demand for cars dwindled throughout America due to rising fuel prices, many residents turned their attention back to agriculture; crops still provide about two-thirds of Pleasant Prairie’s income today (though this has changed somewhat since then because technological advancements have allowed more exports than ever before)). Many plants used here during prohibition include: apple trees used for tarting apples such as Granny Smith apples; cornstalks used stripped from stalks before they are dried; white potatoes peeled then mashed using cow manure rather than water;[1] beans ground into meal until mostly pureed form which goes into chili or dog food etc.;[2] peas ground fine until they are like flour then added boiling water making chowder or adding butter where needed...etc., etc., etc.. For all these years I have never seen anything grow wild here! There must be quite some wind power coming through those high peaks somewhere... The following year (1904), George Carleton published "A History of American Agriculture", Volume IV: Agricultural Products From Lake Superior To Gulf Of Mexico". This book detailed how different types of farmland had been developed within Northwestern Wisconsin over 400 years prior including sites such as Menomonee Falls where Huron Indians hunted game and living Wage men labored under English/ Dutch masters during various stages in between European settlement times culminating with English control after 1634-1639/40 when fur trading posts opened up along northern Michigan riverside settlements attracted settlers looking for new opportunities beyond established farms productive田irts that led gradually deeper inland across open country towards larger villages founded along waterways becoming lawless areas characterized by increased contact with Native Americans who posed significant dangers both militarily & commercially leading eventually to negotiated treaties yielding much land ceded +/- important resources acquired thereby primarily through warfare resulting in social changes altering cultural practices among indigenous peoples often creating alliances Death Bands traveling westward scalp village Chiefs & Women vulnerable women captives taken prisoners offered gifts life imprisonment instead given if woman put outproductive husband did not marry her she received freedom & dance lessons free access unlimited credit given against marriage fees if husband died her master could sell her off quick death leaving her dependent upon manorial property owner unless father secured release via inheritance continued dependency subjection notwithstanding 1 Carleton observes "...the custom [of exchanging women captives] was probably more profitable than any other mode hitherto known."

The area now known as Pleasant Prairie was first settled by European settlers in the late 17th century. At that time, it consisted of only a few scattered farms and some hunting and fishing sites. By the mid-18th century, however, Pleasant Prairie had grown to include several villages and a large number of farmsteads. In 1827, Pleasant Prairie became the first village in Milwaukee County when it merged with neighboring Waukesha County. Pleasant Prairie experienced some significant growth during the 19th century. In 1855, for example, the population of Pleasant Prairie reached 1,500 people. Additionally, by 1870virtually all of the original farms had been abandoned and replaced by new ones worth more than $1 million (at that time). However, despite this growth potential, Pleasure Prairie never quite achieved its initial success as a agricultural center. Instead, it gradually drifted into economic obscurity until becoming an important manufacturing town during World War II.
