The Platteville gun case history began in 1876 when the town of Platteville, Wisconsin was founded. The town was named after a stream that ran through the town. The first store in the town was built on High Street and it was called The Fort. In 1877, the fort burned down and a new fort was built on State Street. This fort served as the town's seat for a time. In 1881, the new platteville post office was opened and it used to be located on Second Avenue. In 1907, the old post office building collapsed and it resulted in a lot of damage to buildings in Platteville. In 1916, an addition to the Post Office Building were added which housed a basement for storage. In 1917, there were several shootings within 500 feet of each other in Platteville and three people were killed. These shootings are considered to be part of what is known as "Platteville Massacre." In 1919, a fire started at a local bakery which resulted in $5000 worth of damage to property inside and outside of the bakery. In 1922, an addition to the Post Office Building were added which housed an elevator for use by employees below stairs. In 1923, there were several shootings within 500 feet of each other again in Platteville and four people were killed this time around. These shootings are also considered part of what is known as "Platteville Massacre."
Platteville is a small town in the United States, located in the state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,083 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area. The first settler in Platteville was John Burroughs who arrived on July 10, 1837 and platted what is now known as Burroughs Street. The town had its start on May 30, 1839 when Wm. Gossom and family bought 3 miles (5 km) of land from Abram Heckerfeldt for $3 per acre ($ ). Gossom built a log cabin which he named "Platteville". By 1870, platting out 2 additional blocks on Dry Prairie had resulted in the town having a total population of 20 people. The post office opened in 1876 and continued to serve until it closed on October 7th, 1969. On January 1st, 1907 Platteville became a city with a population of 25 people under Mayor E J Fenton. With growth came need for more public services such as sewers and schools - these were provided by the Milwaukee Road Company through their platting out of new towns across eastern Wisconsin . A water tower was erected soon after to provide water for local homes and businesses; this also helped spur development along Fossgate Avenue between Lake Michigan Boulevard and State Highway 84 where many factories were established during World War I due to wartime demand for munitions production in that area. In 1913-1914 construction began on what would become one of America's largest shopping centers when Northwestern Mutual insurance company purchased 8 acres (300 m²) north of downtown from their founder John Wanamaker; this allowed them to build an elaborate plaza with 50 retail stores including Marshall Field's department store as well as several movie theaters including Regal Cinemas which still stands today! In 1951-1952 plans were made to relocate the city hall eastward but this idea was not pursued due to budgetary constraints; however, over time there has been movement towards reopening old buildings within town limits such as the library which originally housed both municipal offices and a hospital before becoming vacant since 1998 when fire destroyed much of it! Today Platteville boasts two professional sports teams: The Packers (NFL) play their home games at Lambeau Park while UW–Green Bay plays at Camp Randall Stadium which has been home to college football since 1912 In addition to its professional teams, Platteville also features several amateur sports organizations including baseball (), softball (), basketball (), golf (), soccer () & track (). Its vital role in Wisconsin history has led to its status as a tourist destination for residents and visitors alike; its diverse architecture museum provides displays on local architecture dating back to pioneer times; and its annual summer entertainment event – known locally as "Festival Park" – features top-quality music, dance, art galleries and other attractions throughout July/August
The first people to live in Platteville were the Menominee, who arrived in 1787. The town was named for Pierre-Jean de la Salle, a French explorer and missionary who explored the area in 1789. The first school was built in 1814. In 1847, the platteville post office was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1957.
