Platteville, Wisconsin is a small town located in the central region of Wisconsin. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chippewa Falls Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to sight what is now Platteville was Lieutenant John C. Sturgis on July 6, 1823 while exploring the area for fur traders. At that time, it was an unorganized territory and no one knew its name or boundaries. Fort Dearborn had been built by General Anthony Wayne in 1792 as a trading post on the upper Missouri River in what is now Michigan Territory. In 1824, when Treaty No. 5 ceded lands east of Lake Superior to Minnesota and north of the Ottawa River to Canada, Fort Dearborn became known as Ft. Dearborn Heights and platting out a city began here with local leaders called "the Commissioners". growth continued until 1853 when there were only 2 settler families living here – brothers Julius and Nicholas Hirschfeld – plus slaves brought over from Illinois by their father-in-law Jacob Sutter who founded Sacramento County (now Sacramento). By 1860 there were over 100 citizens living in this small town along with 3 churches: one Congregationalist (founded 1793), one Baptist (1811), and one German Lutheran (1851). One reason for early growth may have been due to good water access because around this time Illinois experienced severe droughts which caused many farmers to cross into Canada looking for irrigation resources; however, other reasons include good transportation connections via prairies extending all the way to Chicago providing jobs for locals during hard times; and easy access to markets including Milwaukee and Chicago where goods could be bought cheap making it an attractive place for businesses not just locally but also exported throughout Northwestern United States especially after railroads arrived in this region connecting these areas closer together making life easier both economically as well as politically. In 1875, platting out another city began near present day Waukesha – Beloit – creating yet another city within a town boundary which would continue expanding until 1903 when Platteville annexed neighboring towns of La Crosse and Marquette forming today’s Beloit/Platteville metropolitan area with a total population of over 150,000 people! This growth continued unabated until 1924 when fire destroyed most of downtown Beloit killing more than 50 people leaving behind an almost complete gutted structure save for two walls saved from demolition thanks to donations from local citizens! The rebuilt downtown included new streetscape features such as high arched windows typical of larger cities during this period while also featuring brick sidewalks giving it that “modern” look we see today! As mentioned earlier, Platteville has always been quite active politically with several mayors being elected multiple times since 1800 including Nathan Hale who served from 1830-1840 then again from 1850-1857 then James Aiken who served 1861-1871 followed by Jabez Mowry Sr who served 1881–1901 before dying suddenly at age 72 leaving power vacant; however, current Mayor Jeffery Kapp says he has never taken office without first receiving approval from his fellow council members! With so much history here dating back centuries it's no wonder that so many aspects of everyday life are still governed by tradition even if those traditions sometimes differ slightly from those practiced centuries ago! Despite its recent history though, Platteville remains quite rural setting with wide open spaces dotting its landscape like few others in Northwestern United States; accordingly its residents often take pride in maintaining tight control over their lives despite some trying moments like last year’s controversial zoning change that removed several acres awayfrom downtown following years of protests!! Today Platteville continues struggling through tough economic times having lost nearly half its population between 2000 and 2010 according to US Census data although some hope things will improve under new leadership including Mayor Jeffery Kapp whose experience makes him well suited for running this struggling community? Despite these challenges though Mayor Kapp believes that Platvevillians have remained true to their culture despite changesover time demonstrating why he was chosen as leader given his dedication towards community safety and outreach programs which focus on preventing crime both inside & outside the town limits!

Platteville is a town in Dodge County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–West Allis area. The first settler in Platteville was Samuel Stephenson in 1836. The town was established in 1839, and named for David platte (1812-1890), an early settler in this area. As the population grew and development took place around it, the name changed to Platteville after some residents donated land for a town center on the banks of the Kawkabeen River. The original platting site is now located near where Interstate 94 runs through town. In 1870, John Wagoner moved his family from Illinois to Dodge County and began farming there. By 1871, he had built a log cabin on what is now Main Street in Platteville. He died soon afterward and bequeathed his farm to his son John Wagoner Jr., who continued to live there until 1906 when he sold it to George Loomis Sr., whovellite miner and business owner who also founded Allis Manufacturing Company Limited which still operates today as one of Wisconsin's largest employers with over 450 employees statewide including 100% women employment within its manufacturing divisions across 17 factories situated throughout western Wisconsin including two plants located here in Platteville! His wife Marie also played an important role by leasing her home on White Pine Road from 1922-1927 as a meeting place for local farmers during their annual wheat harvest season! On March 8th 1886 Isaac Noyes came into possession of 5 acres north of present day Timken Drive east of US Highway 12 & west of State Road 82 owned by James Halsey Polk amongst others & held him until 1888 when he conveyed it all back to James Halsey Polk along with title deeds dated October 15th 1889 & November 6th 1890 thereby terminating any claim JH Polk may have had thereto! This event marked the end of white settlement west of Milwaukie Creek as that section became part of Racine County under jurisdiction of that county government ! The first post office opened at Platteville on December 3rd 1839 under the name "Wawasee". On July 13th 1840, it changed its name to "Platteville" after David platte (1812-1890), an early settler in this area! It remained open until May 14th 1861 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by increased postage rates levied byWisconsin state legislature due to growing mail volume resulting from American Civil War efforts! When authorities reopened it on May 21st 1865 they again changed its name back to "Platteville" after David plattele's donation once more!! Accordingly, since January 1st 1909 - date our current Post Office building opened - PlatteVILLE has been closely associated with both our history and culture; experiencing moments both big & small like: becoming known nationally for hosting America’s only World Expo’n(EXPO ’89) –largest ever – being featured prominently nationwide as one stop on your summer pilgrimage from coasttocoast; earning accolades such as becoming UNESCO City Of Culture2007 – twice ranked #1 globally among leading global cities eligible for designation! For many residents (& visitors!) this garrison has become proverbial ‘home away from home’ – whether watching Packers football games or just hanging out enjoying our unique community spirit…a feeling you can feel even if you don't live hereabouts !!!!!
The area now known as Platteville was first settled by the Potawatomi Indians in the late 18th century. The town of Platteville was founded in 1847 and grew rapidly due to its location on the banks of the Wisconsin River. The town was named for General John A. platte, a military leader who helped lead the establishment of Milwaukee County in 1836. In 1862, Platteville became a city and remained so until it incorporated as a village in 1909.
