The plat for Platteville was filed on December 3, 1836 by James Hays and John Fritchey. The plat included parts of present-day Platteville, Chilton and Hubbardtown townships. On July 1, 1841, the plat was amended to add Unadilla Township to it. The first settler in Platteville was George Wetherall who arrived in 1840 from Connecticut via the land route which passed through Rock County. He built a log cabin on what is now First Street West in 1842 or 43. Wetherall's son Daniel also settled in Platteville around this time and became one of its earliest citizens. In 1851, Isaac Peck moved from Illinois to plat boundaries associated with Placerville - he had come overland as part of his attempt to purchase land east of Milwaukee which he could use for farming purposes; however, he did not find any takers for his offer so he decided to move into what would become Platteville proper rather than try again later In 1856 Elijah Holmes moved here from New York City after purchasing 640 acres northwest of town on the west side of Lake Michigan (the Holmes farm still stands). He started a millinery business called "Elijah's Flour Mill." In 1860 John Sutherlin bought land north of town from Elijah Holmes that serviced lumber mills near Chicago; Sutherlin developed this property into an all-purpose forest preserve that includes much today's residential areas including some homes dating back to 1870s when settlers began clearing away old forests around their homes . A post office operated at Platteville from November 2nd1857 until August 15th1867 due to postal problems caused by lack of funds available at that time for new mail service postage rates had more than doubled since regulation went into effect just prior to that date! Townspeople organized themselves into committees responsible for various tasks such as maintaining public baths (now known as Community Pool), providing firewood and other services needed during those dark winters months; these committees were eventually disbanded but their ideals live on thru today’s ordinances governing town life

Platteville is located in the town of Waterville, Wisconsin and has a population of about 350. The town was first settled in 1836 by Nicholas Platte and his family. The plat for Platteville was filed on November 2, 1836. The plat included 6 lots that totaled 25 acres. On December 12, 1836, the plat was amended to add 4 more Lots which totaled 50 acres. On March 3, 1840, a schoolhouse and store were built in Platteville. In 1846, the town had 9 residents and on October 10th of that year a post office was established at Platteville with Wm J Clarke as Postmaster. By 1860 there were 15 residents and by 1870 there were 26 residents. A sawmill was built in 1865 and operated until 1888 when it closed down due to lack of customers. The first hotel in Platteville was built in 1886 by Lula Cooksey who also operated the bakery which served as the town's mainstay until 1945 when it burned down. In 1945 Abraham Butterworth leased the building from Mrs Cooksey and operate it as an inn until its sale to Donald Deasy in 1978 which led to its closure several years later but reopened under new management in 1984-1985. They named the town after Pierre de la Ville, who had been a captain of the French army in North America during the Seven Years' War.
