In 1850, plattevillians voted to create their own government under a new form of government called township organization which became common across much of America during this time frame. In 1865, when Milwaukee was founded as an independent city, plattevillians voted not to secede from Milwaukee County but remain within it until they seceded again in 1868 when they formed their own villagegovernment within Racine County In 1892, when Milwaukee annexed Racine County into its municipality making it one community by name rather than bytownship or county vote, plattevillians also ratified this change by voting unanimously to become part of Milwaukee Municipality. However annexation did not finalize these changes until after World War II when Madison annexed additional townships forming platteville's current boundaries including Kenosha Township and Waterford Township which make up most of northwestern Milwaukee County today!
