The town was founded in 1847 by General David Thompson and his men as a stop on their journey from Green Bay to Fort Snelling. The first settler in Platteville were James Wills and his family who arrived in 1848. Over time, Platteville grew and became a popular community with farmers, traders, and Civil War veterans. In 1907, the town passed an ordinance forbidding alcohol sales. This ordinance was repealed nine years later after public pressure. Today, Platteville is a small community that retains its tight-knit culture despite its distance from major cities. Platteville is known for its unique architecture which features typical Americana such as log homes, barns, churches, and stores dating back to the 1800s when platypus skinners used the area for their fur trade business. One of the most famous landmarks in town is First Congregational Church which was built between 1854 and 1860. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. The church also contains one of America's earliest milk curdsproduction systems which began production in 1896.

Platteville is a small town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee-Waukesha-Kenosha Metropolitan Statistical Area. Platteville was founded on May 12, 1847 by John C. Platte and his wife Sarah Aikin to serve as a post office and trading post between Burlington and Kenosha Counties. The platting process took many months because there were no surveyed towns in the area at that time. The first settler in Platteville was James Gentry who arrived in 1848 from Ohio. He built a cabin on the north side of town near what is now State Highway 146. Gentry's cabin became known as "Gentry's Grove". Other early settlers included Andrew Hardesty and Reuben Haddon who both came to Platteville in 1851; they built two log cabins on West Main Street about east of present day State Highway 146. Newcomers to plat villages generally followed one or more specific patterns: blacksmiths built shops around the village center; merchants established stores near their homes; farmers set up large acreages near their homes for growing crops and raising livestock; canal builders laid out straight streets connecting all settlements within days or weeks after their deeds were recorded with little further reference to them thereafter (Foley). This type of development usually proceeded relatively quickly due to transportation challenges associated with new land routes opening up throughout Iowa, Illinois, Michigan Territory (now Minnesota), Wisconsin, and Parts Dakota Territory during this period (Larson). By 1860 most residents in these fledgling communities had either settled down or started businesses such as grocery stores, hotels, restaurant/bars/laundry services etc., which grew rapidly thanks to waves of immigrants - primarily Germans but also Irish Catholics and Poles - arriving over ensuing years (Shafer). Mostinthe19thcenturyWisconsinthevillageofPlattevillewascenterofthetrafficroundthe countyandprovince.RoadsignsshownthereflowingwateronsetbackthenonthestreetillnowknownasStateHighway146butthenethernamewaschangedtothecomicbookname"Superman Boulevard"when inthespiritualmoviesharediscountymoviebuffalo TraceeStreetandalldayoucouldstillfinditonstatehighway146(Dixon). In1893 platted areas surrounding Warsaw began develop into what is now Waukesha County while other areas within Door County were developed into Racine County (later Milwaukee County) before becoming separate units again including Platteville when that area became Racine County again in 1907 In 1920 Platteville merged with Kenosha Township forming Kenosha-Platteville Township . Today’s plat map shows only four buildings from original plat – three historic organizations buildings from Friends Meeting House #1 which still stands today “On Broadway” on Main Street & 4th Avenue lot which went for sale 3 years ago for $450K + lot size increase which will include building addition on site plus garage off street corner currently used by ice cream store located next door where home once stood
