Pewaukee is a town in the Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 17,869 at the 2010 census. It was named after General Daniel Pewaukee and his family who donated land to the town in 1851. The first gun target in Pewaukee was located on a farmstead off of State Highway 35 south of the town in 1852. A small piece of wood with a six-inch by twelve-inch hole drilled through it served as the target's stock and an instructor drilled it for practice with pistols. A second farmstead target was located two miles north of Pewaukee on Clear Creek Road in 1862. Another small piece of wood with a four-inch by eight-inch hole bored through it served as the target's stock and another instructor drilled it for practice with pistols. Two years later, a large tree stump became the target's stock when it was moved from its original location to become part of what is now Playland Park Elementary School playground area northeast of town center. The targets remained there until 1927 when they were replaced by small metalPing pong balls which could be hit if timed correctly and then released quickly to cause damage done to nearby trees or ground covers during playtime (the balls had no nails or other sharp objects). In 1930, an electric range was added to Clear Creek Road Target Shop property making these targets available for shooting during daylight hours instead of at night when batteries required for operation were unavailable; however, NRA members are allowed use only during lawful NRA sanctioned events! Pewaukee is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the east side of the Mississippi River. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of Green Bay–Mequon area. The first known inhabitants of Pewaukee were people from nearby Allumette and Menomonee counties who hunted and fished in the river's valley and along its shores during the early historic period. In 1834, John Prentice built a log cabin on his farmstead just south of present-day Pewaukee for himself and his wife Sarah Pratt (1810-1875). On October 5, 1835, they welcomed their first child into this world – John C. Pewaukee (1836-1915). The family gradually acquired more land around their property until they had a total acreage of . They platted their village site in 1856, calling it "Pewaukee". In 1871, when Milwaukee County was created out of parts of Wisconsin, Pewaukee became one of its original townships. When Milwaukee County was annexed by Madison County in 1889, Pewaukee remained as an unincorporated community within that county boundaries unchanged until 1907 when it became a part of Green Bay Township under then-mayor George Simpson's jurisdiction after Simpson's election as mayor with majorities from both parties to create what would become Green Bay City governmentality; however much earlier than that there may have been some development taking place due to annexation proceedings - according to oral history from local historian Don Saylor: Some evidence suggests that by 1907 or 1908 there had actually been active efforts taken to develop adjoining properties which would make up what would eventually become downtown Green Bay with structures such as stores/cafés etc., but these plans never came to fruition because Mayor Simpson died suddenly before any significant progress could be made... we know today because he left behind some records which we can use! A post office called "Pewaukee" was established at this location on December 29th 1840 by Lewis Judd with two mailbags per week service.. The name change occurred on January 8th 1861 when Augustus Buel moved into the village and changed his name to "Green Bay", after he took over operation from Judd & Company who continued using "Pewaukee". At this time "Pewaukee" also included present day Menomonee Falls right upriver until it was annexed by Milwaukee in 1890s; alluvial deposition has buried most buildings near current day Menomonee Falls Road including Original Dutch Reformed Church which still stands today adjacent to Kohl’s Department Store across Main Street

In 1860, John Sargent built his first house in what is now Pewaukee and served as town clerk from 1861 to 1865. On February 13, 1907, the Fox River Bridge over the Fox River connecting Pewaukee with Menomonee Falls opened to traffic; this made it possible for residents of both towns to enjoy live music concerts during summertime without going all the way downriver to Menomonee Falls. In 1912-13, when Jenaro Dowling designed and built the new high school in Menomonee Falls (now called West Allis High School), he also designed an elementary school that served as an annex to that building until 1951 when that school's building was destroyed by fire
