Pewaukee is a small town in the Wisconsin state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fox Cities district. Pewaukee is located in northwestern Milwaukee County and is bordered by the city of Milwaukee to the north, Waukesha County to the east, Racine County to the south and west, and White Lake to the northwest. Its ZIP Code 54471 is within Milwaukee's boundaries. According to TheWisconsinReview.com, Pewaukee "was first settled by English farmers in 1837." The village was platted on December 4, 1837, according to local records. A post office called Pewaukee was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. The Village of Pewaukee incorporated as a township on March 9, 1905. On November 3rd of that year residents voted not to annex into the city of Milwaukee due to objections from Mayor John Haggerty who felt that annexation would increase taxes for his municipality while reducing services available to those living within its borders alone; however annexation did occur two years later on February 14th 1906 when members of both villages met at City Hall and merged their ordinances into one becoming known as "Pewaukee". The first store opened at 5th & State Streets on October 24th 1907 which became known as "The Gilded Cage". From 1909-1910 there were three schools: one for boys operated out of an old wagon barn at 6TH & State Streets (now home of Waukesha County Technical College), one for girls operated out of a building next door at 7TH & State Streets (now home of Westview Elementary School) and a day school open until 2pm began serving students from grades Pre-K through 8th grade outfitted with classrooms/scoreboards built outside using adobe bricks which heated up overnight so students could learn without any interruptions during lunchtime or after school activities (later this school system also served Asbury Park High School). In 1925 there were only four elementary schools left operating in Racine County; two closed due primarily to lack Ofsted funding while two more became co-educational academies - Hubbard Elementary School (opened 1927) and Roosevelt Intermediate School (opened 1929). All but Hubbard closed by 1928 had all been replaced by high Schools with all but Roosevelt being consolidated into Oneonville High School which opened September 30th 1930 with grades 9-12 having been added earlier that year; Oneonville merged with Jefferson Junior/Senior High School January 1st 1941 making Pewaukee's only highSchool still operational today! An addition gymnasium/shallop wing was completed campus wide including brand new bleachers for basketball games opening Gymnasium #1 August 15th 1965 followed by Gymnasium #2October 2nd 1967 Click here for more information about this unique facility!
