Pewaukee is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, and the home of the Pewaukee Ammunition Manufacturing Company. The company was founded in 1856 by Nicholas Pewaukee, Jr., and his father, Nicholas Pewaukee Sr. The company made ammunition for both military and sporting use until it closed its doors in 1990. In 2009, the company's remains were moved to an area near West Bend Cemetery in Pewaukee after being donated to the city by billionaire George Soros. The first shot fired from a cannon in America was on July 4th 1776 when troops led by Marquis de Lafayette fired a round off a small cannon at Fort Duquesne on Philadelphia's South Side. caliber .25 ball had been developed for this purpose by French artilleryman Nicolas-Jacques Conte during Louis XVI's War of Independence. The first gun that used powder smoke as propellant was built by Captain James Cook at HMS Resolution in 1779 while he served as Lt.-Commander of HM Ships Beagle and Discovery under Captains John Franklin and David Richardson respectively; Cook's first successful test firing using powder smoke took place on October 12th 1780 off Cape York Peninsula, Australia with crew of HMS Resolution sailing under Commanding Officer First Lieutenant James Cook RNVR (born 1684). The first American shots were fired from a muzzle loading musket at Fort Doniphan on November 15th 1812 during the Mexican–American War overseen by Secretary of War John Cranch Halleck

Pewaukee is a town in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is likely derived from the Sauk word pewsah meaning "a seat." Pewaukee is located in Green and Walworth counties. The first settler in Pewaukee was John Prentice, who arrived on January 17, 1836, and brought with him his family and some animals. He built a cabin on the west side of the river near present day Park Road. A year later, he erected a log cabin oncurrent site of the current post office. On July 1, 1837, John Prentice married Martha Ladd (1811-1877). They had two daughters: Sarah (born December 12, 1837) and Mary (born February 2, 1840). In 1840 they bought a grant from George Vail for $500 which included all of what is now known as Town Lake. They started to farm their land and build homes around what is now downtown Pewaukee. In 1847 James Fenton came to Pewaukee from Illinois with his family and began farming land around what is now downtown Pewaukee. He also built a home on present day Park Road near where Martha Prentice had built her home one year earlier. This house became known as the Fenton House or Mrs. Fenton's House after James' wife Mary Fenton (1812-1892). In 1850 James Fenton married Catharine Beaumont (1817-1900), daughter of Captain David Beaumont of Maine fame who had come overland through Canada during the War For Independence in 1812/13 as part of an army commanded by General William Henry Harrison Jr.. Captain David Beaumont's wagon train was stopped by Ulysses S Grant near Fort Dodge on November 25th 1862 while en route to Council Bluffs to meet President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre when Union forces under General Simon Cameron destroyed that fortifications; Captains David Beaumont and Edward Robinson along with 100 men were taken captive including 3 members of CaptainsDavid Beadle's crew that had been left behind to protect these valuable supplies Although CaptainsDavidBeaumontand Edward Robinsonwere eventually released unharmed following pressure from President Abraham Lincoln they received no recognition from either federal government until well after their deaths CatharineFenton however received several grants throughout her lifetime from various organizations including one which she gave to local high school which still exists today named after her father Captain David Beaumont High School
Pewaukee was founded in 1836 by George Pewaukee and his brother, Daniel. The town was named for Captain John Pewaukee, who fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill. The first post office was established in 1839. In 1847, the town became a village. On July 1, 1901, the village merged with the neighboring city of West Bend to form the current city of Pewaukee.
