This trend continued as OshKOSH grew rapidly through annexed villages until it reached 50 people* by 1925*. Today*, even though *the total population* remains below 50 thousand*, *Oshkwishans continue to lead American cities in terms of economic production and diversity.* In 1965*, when *Wisconsin merged with Illinois* both states established new civic governments for their respective towns* which led to increased services and amenities for residents including water systems*, libraries(* initially funded by local fundraising*) and fire departments(* originally operated by volunteer firefighters). These days, all these services are provided by professional corporations such as Shawmut National Corporation(*responsible for providing most public transportation within town*) which operates many businesses within town limits such as banks (*+, insurance companies , liquor stores ), grocery stores (*+, fast food restaurants ), etc.* It should be noted that while Shawmut National Corporation operates many businesses within town limits*, there are no commercial areas adjacent to or bordering on downtown Oshkosh; instead all business districts are located inside or around school districts which provide much needed commerce during weekday lunchtime hours.-
