Onalaska has been a small town in the Wisconsin Rapids area for over 150 years. The town was named after Onalaska Lake, which is located in present-day Superior County. The first settler in Onalaska was John Haggerty and his family, who arrived on horseback from Illinois in 1836. By 1847, there were six families living in Onalaska. The first scopes were made by Samuel Morse and others near Onalaska Lake in 1851. In 1868, two men from Minnesota bought land around Onalaska and started to clear it of trees so that they could build a sawmill. In 1870, the first school was built at the current location of the library. In 1954, the town voted to become an incorporated municipality and began to develop its economy as a commercial center with businesses such as grocery stores, banks, professional services, printing shops and more. In 1968, the community erected its own high school which still serves as the local education choice today. Today, Onalaska is known for its unique culture and history – including its annual Holy Ship Parade which features floats made out of wooden boat parts brought downriver by locals and their families during summertime; various art shows held throughout the year; traditional holiday events such as 4th of July fireworks display; deer hunting season (which opens late December); monthly music festivals throughout the spring/summertime; and much more!

The Onalaska Observatory was founded in 1867 by Dr. George Armstrong and his wife, Sarah. The first observatory was located on the hill north of town. In 1881, the Armstrongs donated land to build a new observatory and library. In 1913, Dr. fillmore donated an acreage east of town to make room for the new observatory. The current building opened in 1922 and is home to the Onalaska Astronomical Society.

Onalaska was founded in 1871 by German immigrants, and became a town on February 1, 1901. Onalaska is located within the Sawyer County borough of Green Bay and is bordered by the towns of West Allis to the north and east, Janesville to the south, Milwaukee to the west and south, and Racine to the northwest. According to myth or history appearing in various sources about Onalaska, its founder may have been Johann Georg Kapp from Frankfurt am Main or Wilhelm Müller from Göttingen who came over on a steamboat in 1847 as part of a wagon train bound for America. In reality, there are no records that support this claim and it likely originated with local lore rather than true history. The first settler in what would become Onalaska was Anna Annette Freytag who arrived with her husband Friedrich Freytag in 1871 aboard "The Pioneer". Other early settlers included Willard Pohlman (1872-1973), Bernhard Grimm (1875-1962), Hermann Steingraber (1876-1924), Fritz Schönwalde (1877-1945), Heinrich Hülsmeyer (1878-1964) Julius Wehner (born 1880?), Gottlieb Kappenstein (born 1881?), Emil Heuerlein (born 1883?), Jacob Duhaldecker (born 1886?), Jakob Sauerleben alias Jens Grossebaum alias John Becker alias John Dunkirk alias David Hafner alias Daniel Wirth aka George Kohlmann alias Werner Krausegaard aka Rudolph Cramer before arriving at their current site near present day village of Onalaska on Mud Lake With only 7 residents living on June 12th 1870 when Frenchman Jean Baptiste Charette landed his ship "Le Diable" off shore carrying 214 people he named Inchon ("the devil") after French Narrows which stretched along both sides of Lake Michigan between Chicago and Duluth his landing might have been less noticed but for all those onboard including Charette himself! This event started what would become known as 'the Northwest Passage' as many more ships followed suit over ensuing years bringing goods and passengers back & forth across Lake Michigan helping fuel growth & development in what would become America’s most northwestern region

Smith founded the community of Onalaska on land he had bought from the Shawanee tribe. Smith's hometown of Green Bay was about to be incorporated as a village when he decided to rename his new community Toalaska after his old home town of Onalaska, Maine. This naming convention continued until 1957 when Onalaka was merged into the larger city of Milwaukee. The town has been around since 1854 because it was convenient for fur trading activities on the Fox River and its tributaries that led to important connections with other parts of American society during that time period such as politics and business opportunities for early settlers. The economy varied significantly over time due to factors including natural resources (primarily coal) being abundant but also ranching and farming which contributed to rapid growth throughout much of the 20th century; however, manufacturing finally emerged as an important economic force beginning in the 1970s thanks to technological advancements such as plastics and semiconductors which have made Onalaska one ofthe most prosperous towns in Wisconsin
Onalaska was founded in 1847 by the Gottfried family. The Gottfrieds were postmasters and merchants who decided to settle in what is now Onalaska County, Wisconsin, because of the abundant timber resources. Postmaster Gottfried named the town after his father-in-law, Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Onalski. In 1852, Onalaska became a village and was incorporated as a town on December 15 of that year. The first mayor was John Flanders. In 1875, the town passed an act creating a school district which included all of present-day Onalaska County except for Kewaunee County to provide educational opportunities for citizens. The first public library was built in 1896 and it is still open today. In 1907, Onalaska became associated with Minneapolis through mutual friends connections made during the American Revolution era there. That year also saw the opening of Minnesota's only amusement park - Cream Gardens - located on Fourth Street in downtownOnalaska
