Onalaska, Wisconsin is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The town of Onalaska was founded in 1873 by Danish immigrants and named for Ole Clausen Onalfors, one of the founders of the town. The first store in Onalaska was built on what is now Main Street. The first gun shop in Onalaska opened in 1879 and soon became a popular destination for shooters from all over Door County. In 1916, local merchants formed a guns-only club and began to sell ammunition there as well. Today, rifles and shotguns are available for purchase at most local businesses in Onalaska as well as online through retailers such as AmazonBasics or Walmart.

The first settler in Onalaska was Abram Boisvert who arrived in 1836. He and his family were among the earliest white settlers to come to what is now Door County. Mrs. Boisvert's husband, Pierre-Alexandre Gagnon, also came early and started a fur trading business with his brother Samuel de Champlain on the Grand River near modern day Waukesha. In 1839, Captain John Fetterman of the US Navy landed at Prairie du Chien (now Racine) with a cargo of goods including flour and whiskey for Native American traders who had been trading along the Great Lakes since as early as 1792. This event signaled beginning of an era of Unexploited Resources development that would last for many years
Onalaska was founded in 1854 by Isaac and Anna Onalaska. It became a town in 1870. The Onalaska Railroad was built through the town in 1875.
