Onalaska is a small town in Green Bay, Wisconsin that has been around since the 1800s. The first settlers in Onalaska were German immigrants who arrived in 1847. The town was named after one of the many lakes that make up Green Bay. Onalaska was originally a small community located on the east side of Green Bay. In 1922, Onalaska became part of Green Bay Township and then to the city of Green Bay in 1949. Today, Onalaska is an important cultural and commercial center for neighboring towns and villages. The town was initially founded as a log cabin community. In 1847, two German immigrants, Hermann and Wilhelm Kapp from Germany, built a cabin near what is now downtown Onalaska. They named their community Kappenwasserstadt after one of the many lakes that make up Green Bay. The original population of Kappenwasserstadt consisted of five families only; however, by 1865, there were twenty-five families living in the community. By 1870, Kappenwasserstadt had grown to include seventy-five families. In 1922, when Green Bay Township was established within Green Bay City limits, Onalaska became part of its boundaries as well. At this time, it consisted primarily of homeschooled children who lived inside their respective townships rather than outside them like today’s residents do。 Afterward, business activities began to grow at an alarming rate due to onrushing development along State Highway 12 south from where state highways crossed each other into the city Limits area 。 With businesses opening up all over town and jobs available right next door (just off State Highway 12), residents soon started buying property adjacent to their neighborhoods north and east which would later become known as “the North Side” or “the East Side” . However it wasn’t until after World War II that things really changed for Onalaska with numerous construction projects taking place throughouttown resulting in nearly doubling the population by 1950 (). One such project was construction of Milwaukee River Bridge which connected downtown with Outagamie County on the west bank . This bridge greatly increased trade betweenOnalaskaandMilwaukeeandmadeOnalanaksouthofGreenBaymuchmoreExpansivebecausetheywerenowabletoseealloverthecityandnotjust downtoStateHighway12astheyhadbeenbefore (). The riverfront properties also saw increased development through outtown due mainly to Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company (), now WISCO (), making access to freshwater resources much more accessible while also creating high-paying manufacturing jobs across multiple industries (). Even though these new developments completely surrounded old homespun neighborhoods such as those around First Street (), they did manage to change some aspects about how residents interpreted their surroundings ; no longer did they see just another small logging village situated conveniently closeishtoeverythingelse.; instead they began seeing themselves as membersOfOneCityAndAllTheyReallyKnew WasHowToGetToIt.( Many people still continue this perspective today .) During World War II on October 25th 1942 USS Pogue (AO-4) sank during her maiden voyage following her launch from Naval Air Station Patuxent River Maryland She hit submerged rocks just southwest Of Hennepin Island As she approached Straits Of Mackinac we found herself aground our research vessel USNS Abraham Lincoln (RG-5) providing local assistance including firefighting attempts her engines blew water overboard extinguishing all fires aboard ship saving hundreds if not thousands lives both crewmembersthe USS Stroudsburg (DDG 51) & USS Weiser (AGS 548) had already lost touch before our arrival but fortunately enough Lieut Commander Ressler RN had emergency signals set up so phone messages could be sent ashoreeenablingUSSLincoln towSS Abraham Lincoln back tow alpha position Latitude 42° 24' N Longitude 80° 04' W his message read "We are going down! Hold your breath!" Unfortunately for us nobody ever got back alive thank God for modern technology!!!!!!!
