Onalaska is a town in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Eau Claire Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is also included in the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet Combined Statistical Area. The first settler in Onalaska was Abram Custer in 1853. Onalaska was platted on February 8, 1858 by commissioners John W. Sorenson and David Hackett from what is now Marinette County and it became a part of the state of Wisconsin on July 1, 1862. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. In 2000, Onalaska's median income for a household was $44,854 and for a family was $60,909. Males had a median income of $31,875 versus $24,583 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,527. About 7% of families and 10% of the population were belowthe poverty line,.

The company was named Rifles and Airguns and became known for its highly reliable, lightweight firearms. In 1902, the company introduced its first air rifle, which it called the Colt 1911. This weapon quickly became popular among shooters around the world. By 1906, Rifles and Airguns had developed a new type of airgun known as an adjustable-muzzle velocity (AMV) gun. This weapon allowed shooters to adjust their shooting speed and achieve different results based on their target's distance from them.
Onalaska, Wisconsin was founded in 1855 by John R. Onalaska and his wife, Anna. The town was named in honor of General George Washington Onalaska and the Battle of Minden on November 18, 1794 which relieved the Siege of Petersburg. The town had a population of just over 100 people when it was first established. In 1865, Onalaka became the county seat for Racine County and it remained that way until 1959 when West Allis took over as the county seat. The history of Onalaska begins with its founding as a small settlement near present-day Racine and Waukesha counties by John R. Onalaska and Anna Laughlin. After only a few months, they had built a cabin, started trading goods with other settlers in what is now Racine County, and named their new community after General Washington himself - Onalaska's battle ground at Minden two years earlier helping to relieve the siege there! In 1855, on land that he donated to Racine County free of charge following his victory at the Battle of Preble's Prairie against Native Americans led by Chief White Bear, John R. Onalaska erected an early log courthouse which still stands today within sight of downtown Racine (now known as downtown West Allis). He also helped found several other early communities in this area such as Menomonee Falls (1856), Walworth (1859), Hales Corners (1860), Brookfield (1861) and Mount Pleasant (1863). John R.Onalaska died suddenly on October 16th 1861 at age 54 from pneumonia contracted while campaigning with Ulysses S Grant during the American Civil War; his widow Anna operated the community until her death in 1901 followed by their son John Payson 'Pete' Onalaska who ran things from then on until 2005 when he sold everything to become an Emeritus Professor at UW-River Falls Polytechnic Institute where he currently resides
