By 1890, most of the buildings in town were built or available for sale and it was renamed Green Bay in honor of General George Armstrong Custer who was then military governor of Wisconsin

In fact some people say that prohibition itself may have been responsible for causing much economic decline for many small towns across America as bootlegging soon became an accepted way to make a living! In any case however long Prohibition ended and business started up again all around town- especially since prices for goods had come down significantly! By 1945 when World War II beganOak creek had essentially become a ghost town with only a few residents remaining due to wartime relocation or retirement homes (a common occurrence during those years!). However thanks to hard work by local soldiers stationed here they managed to keep things alive even while war raged outside!! It wasn't until after 9/11 did things start to unravel as manufacturing jobs were sent overseas leaving little opportunity for locals hereabouts! But once again community spirit returned and within 5 short years they’d bring back their old #1 spot atop THE LIST OF BUSINESSES IN OAK CREEK- just like they always do!!! To date there haven’t been any big changes - just continued growth & progress!!!!
Oak Creek was first settled by the Potawatomi in 1836. In 1846, the United States acquired land east of the Mississippi River and named it for General James K. Polk. The town of Oak Creek was founded on May 25, 1847, by citizens of Kansas City. The first post office opened in Oak Creek on October 1, 1847. The town became a village on December 7, 1850, when it adopted a platform that stated: "We pledge to each other our affections and fidelity; we will work together for the good of all." On January 1, 1861, Oak Creek became a county seat with the creation of Racine County. The population at peak reached 10,000 people in 1890. In 1898, Oak Creek voters passed an ordinance establishing Prohibitionism as the official policy of the town. After repeal of Prohibition in 1933 following alcohol prohibition guidelines set by Congress rather than local referendum results), many businesses closed down due to competition from state-owned liquor stores which were open without any restrictions
