Oak Creek, Wisconsin is a town in the Brown County of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wausau–Milton, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Oak Creek has a long history of target shooting and hand gunning dating back to 1855. In that year, James Gee purchased land in present-day Oak Creek and built a gristmill on it. Gee began manufacturing targets for competitive shooters and also distributed them to local businesses. In 1872, he donated land to the Town of Oak Creek for a public square and armory which served as both a center for target shooting and civic events until 1951 when it was used as an airport). The town's first rifle range opened in 1895 by American Rifleman George Lutz with 300 acres (121 hectares) of land donated by Pierre Senechal. The range was located on State Street between Elm and Beaver Streets, across from what is now the library complex. Rifles were shot at muzzleloaders only then! A 10-foot (3 m) steel plate separated each firing zone so that no one person could get hit twice! There were no targets anywhere within 100 yards (91 m)! Today’s ranges are much different but those first days were truly special! In 1912, $1 million was given to build new facilities for Oak Creek Gun Club including two ranges: one 50 feet wide by 20 feet deep (15 m x 6 m), open daily from 9am to 4pm; and another 25 feet wide by 15 feet deep (14 m x 5 m), open every other day except Mondays when it operated only during lunchtime hours from 12pm to 2pm In 1954 ($10 per month), Maple Leaf Shooting Supply Company became owner/operator of both rifle ranges making them exclusively Target Shooter’s Haven properties where members could bring their own rifles or purchase surplus military rifles subject to government restrictions on civilian ownership On July 24th 1959 local citizens Michael Jorgensen & his wife Lois Fenton organized what would become known as “the night shoot” which commenced with an early morning hour fired 3 rounds through Lee-Enfield 1917 rifles then proceed dinner at home before getting up again at midnight for another round or 2

The first post office in Oak Creek was established in 1851. It was renamed Deerfield in 1862 because of the growth of that community nearby. In 1879, the Post Office moved to its present location on Main Street. The town's only store opened in this building in 1886. Winters are typically mild with some winter snows but temperatures can drop as low as −15°F (−3°C) during severe thunderstorms; however they usually average around 0°F (−18°C). Monthly rain totals range from about 60 mm (2") to more than 200 mm (8"), which often leads to flooding due to heavy rains over short periods of time or long durations such as several hours or days combined. Snowfall is very rare; however January sees an occasional flake up to 30 cm (12").
