In the early 1800s, Oak Creek was a small town in Wisconsin. It was home to a gunsmith named Amos Brown and his family. One of Brown's sons, John, started shooting guns for fun in the woods near their home. He began to sell his products to other towns in the area and eventually opened a shop himself in 1827. In 1851, John Brown Sr.'s son John Jr. founded The Milwaukee Rifle Company with his brother-in-law Samuel Colt. The company became one of the most successful firearms manufacturers of its time and made millions of dollars selling rifles and shotguns. In 1892, The Milwaukee Rifle Company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester & Co., which continues today as one of America's leading firearms companies. During World War II, Oak Creek became an important military base due to its location at the crossroads of two major highways. The city grew rapidly after the war and many new businesses were built in what is now downtown Oak Creek. Many old buildings still stand today including the old armory where John Brown Sr.'s company once manufactured rifles. Today, Oak Creek is known for its annual summer festival called "The Fest."

Oak Creek is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The town was named for an oak tree that grew near the original town site. Oak Creek is located in the Driftless Area of northwest Wisconsin. The first settler in what became Oak Creek was David Friesen in 1836. He and his wife, Catharine (née Smith), bought land from John Brownlee and built a log cabin on it. They were the first white people to live in what would become Oak Creek. In 1847, they had four children: Anna (born 1847), John (born 1850), Charles (born1853) and Sarah Jane (born 1855). In 1861, David Friesen sold his interest in the land to Augustus Beavers who donated 3 acres (1 km²) to the town of Oak Creek as its initial location for a post office. The first post office was opened on July 2, 1865 by Samuel Ziegler with Loomis as his Deputy Postmaster. When the railroad arrived in Deer Lodge County in 1870–71, it created a demand for goods and services that could not be supplied from local merchants or farmers because of distances between towns and railroads. To meet this demand, Augustus Beavers donated 4 acres (1 km²) of ground to the new town of Oak Creek for a schoolhouse and store building; this donation is still used today as part of downtown's core business district which includes about 60 businesses including two banks and 10 restaurants/bars along Main Street between Washington Avenue and State Street within city limits since 1998 when downtown redevelopment began under then-Mayor Tom Barrett's direction following passage of state legislation authorizing such redevelopment . It wasn't until 1912 when citizens decided they wanted their own fire department - one that would cover all blocks within their city Limits - so they organized themselves into committees which met monthly until 1913 when Aldermen Waddell Hennessey & Chapman agreed unanimously to form an Association Fire Department with $5 per month subscriptions dues paid by each member !! This program continued through World War I & II thru special Acts passed by both Houses providing funding thru bonding anticipation etc... Finally effective Sept 15th 1959 after many years hard work defunding finally happening thanks Gov Chris Christie !! Now Professionalized FD

They built log homes on what is now State Street in Oak Creek and soon discovered that growing trees along their stream supplied them with essential lumber for their homes and businesses. The German name for this creek, "Ochsenbach," means "oak brook." In 1865, when Wisconsin became a state, Oak Creek became its county seat. The original courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1895 but replaced by a new structure which still stands today. In 1902, oak-tree farming began to be introduced into the town and has been an important aspect of its economy ever since. Today, oak-tree farming makes up about one-third of all business activity in Oak Creek.
Oak Creek is a tributary of the Wisconsin River in southeastern Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The creek was named for an oak tree that stood on its banks. The first settlers in the area were the Potawatomi people. A paper mill was built on Oak Creek by David Chappell in 1846. The mill closed down in 1865, but reopened as a flourmill in 1868. In 1915, the Oak Creek Paper Mill was acquired by United States Paper Company and became known as the United States Paper Mills Incorporated. In 1971, United States Paper Mills merged with Humble Oil and Chemical Corporation to become Humble Industries, Incorporated. Today, Humble Industries operates two mills - one located in Racine and one located in Brookfield - along with six other manufacturing businesses including three food processors and four printing companies.
