Oak Creek is a small town in Marinette County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,997 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area. The community was named after Oak Creek, a tributary of the Fox River. The first settler in what is now Oak Creek was James Morrison in 1836. He brought his family with him from Kentucky and platteated land near present-day Waukesha County as part of the General Grant Survey. In 1839, Morrison's son Isaac built a log cabin on the banks of what would become Oak Creek, which he named for his father's home state of Kentucky. Morrisons' children married and took up residence there; their families became known as "The Morrisonites." Farming did not start to take off until about 1870 when David White started growing corn and beans on some extra land he had acquired from John Dreyer during the Dakota War (1876-87). By 1881 White had moved all his crops to an area where they are still grown today: east of State Road A1A between I-94 and Wisconson Avenue on FM 1410 (now US 43), just south of milepost 327 on Highway 611 (now US 190). White also founded what is now the village of West Allis in 1886 while living in nearby Bestwood Township. In 1896 white donated 2 acres (8 hectares) northeast of modern-day Oak Creek to establish Applebrook Park which continues to serve as a recreational center for residents and tourists alike today
