Oak Creek is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the seat of Kenosha County. The population was 393 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town began as a small community on Oak Creek Lake, now in Kane County, Illinois, about 1872. A post office was established there in 1876, and growth accelerated with construction of an railroad through the area in 1881-82. In 1905, Oak Creek became a city when it was annexed by Milwaukee; Milwaukee had merged with other cities to form the great American city during that time period. In 1969, the city's downtown district (renowned for its architecture and nightlife) was devastated by firebombing during protests against Nixon's presidency; no one was injured but some shops were destroyed or damaged beyond repair. The following year saw another arson attack on an Oakland Creek business: this time two men were convicted and served prison terms after they set fire to a warehouse used byOak Creek lumber dealers; however local lore asserts that these attacks were retribution for earlier damage inflicted upon businesses in retaliation for union organizing efforts within their industry locals

It is the largest town in Iron County by population and has since annexed nearby towns of Chippewa Falls and Mahoning. Oak Creek was founded in 1836 as a Logging Settlement on the branch of the Sauk River which flows through present-day Oak Creek Township. The first post office opened in 1840. In 1870, a group of men from Chicago purchased an area east of downtown Oak Creek for $5,000 to start what would become known as Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Northwestern Mutual became one of America's largest insurance companies and its corporate headquarters are still located there today. In 1913, Oak Creek married into Racine County and began annexing neighboring towns such as Chippewa Falls and Mahoning. The city of Milwaukee annexed parts of Oak Creek in 1973 to create its own municipality with a population over 25,000 residents (the largest annexation ever). Today, Oak creek has more than 10,000 residents living within its borders including 3,500 people who live within the city limits only.

The name of Oak Creek derives from an oak tree that grew near the town's original founding date in 1836. The first settler in what is now Oak Creek was David Chappel, who bought land on Škoda Road in 1836. In 1843, John Smedley settled east of town on land purchased from the federal government for $3 per acre (actually $2 per acre). By 1850, most residents were farmers or small traders. A post office was established at Oak Creek in 1853 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1908. The first school building was built to serve students living near by on Green Bay Road (now School Street). It burned down in 1865 but replaced soon afterwards with a new building which still stands today. In 1870, Rev. Wm Hodge opened his church there and it remains one of the town's main attractions today (the second oldest church still standing outside of Milwaukee). In 1889, the first telephone line was laid through the community when Julius Rosenwald donated some land to provide phone service between Chicago and his then-town of Racine. Telephone service continued to be provided throughout much of Wisconesettle before being taken over by American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) during World War II; however local lines remain available to this day as part of village services including emailing and online polling services among others. In 1907, Oak Creek became a borough; however its charter expired five years later due to lack of support from voters despite efforts by Mayor John Smedley to keep it afloat using state funding he had secured for municipality development projects within hisown township rather than annexing Oak Creek into Douglas County as many other towns had done since becoming municipalities status quo prior to 1957 rules change allowing annexation only if Village Board approval could be obtained as opposed to Township Board approval - which never happened because both boards met separately several times each year). On January 1st 2020 an amendment increased the population size from 9759 people to 11362 people effective July 1st 2020 based off data from the US Census Bureau

In 1889, local residents formed the Town of West Allis to consolidate competing towns around West Allis (then known as Racine). On May 15th of that year (the date oak creek statehood), via popular vote it passed its first ordinance providing for single taxation with no property qualifications for voting or public office; this became effective on July 1st of that year when all municipalities within the new county were merged into it under one government structure . This merger also resulted in Oak Creek becoming part of Racine through annexation by that city on November 3rd 1895 .
