The town was organized on March 8, 1848 by Granville M. Clemens and others as a result of the legislature's decision to create a new township in Waukesha County. The name Oak Creek derived from the oak trees that lined the creek's banks. Oak Creek has been located near present-day Milwaukee since it was laid out in 1851 as part of a land purchase by Samuel Morse and David Wells. The first settler in what is now Oak Creek was Daniel Webster who built his home on what is now Washington Avenue just north of its junction with South Fourth Street. Webster and his wife were among the first people to live in what would become Oak Creek when it was platted for future settlers on February 5, 1851. In 1875, John Dimmick established an agricultural cooperative with other farmers called Dimmick & Company which became one of the largest agricultural cooperatives in America before disbanding in 1924. In 1912, Waukesha County authorized annexation by Milwaukee due to concerns about how much farmland there remained unincorporated within Waukesha County limits while also recognizing that Oak Brook Township had more residents than any other township within county boundaries at that time and wanted its share of property tax revenue generated by businesses located within its borders rather than through annexation into Milwaukee which would have resulted in less money available for education and other public purposes within city limits). On August 20 of that year, Oak Brook Township voted not to annex into Milwaukee but instead applied for incorporation as a separate municipality with their own government - this application received approval on September 3rd under the terms set forth in article 1 (section 25) of section 33 (the Constitution Amendment Act), fully implementing section 25 (the Constitution Amendment Act). This created what would eventually be known as OakBrook Township - one of two municipalities formed from parts ofWaukeshasaCounty after it passed via referendum as an act sponsored by then Congressman George Romney - along with Racine Village forming from portions annexed into Green Bay after passage via referendum during Romney's term as governor (see below). It has been home to many businesses including ABC Corporation which was founded here in 1901 by George Jablonski and his brother Abe Jablonski; American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) which was founded here in 1906 by Edward Teller; Apple Inc., based here since 1976; Foxconn Technology Group LLC (FTC), headquartered here since 2011; Waukesha County government services provider Miller Electric Cooperative; and Second Chance Financial Services Corporation which opened its doors here in May 2014 after being closed for years elsewhere due to reluctance by banks to risk their depositors' money within an unlicensed business model. One interesting aspect about Oak Creek's history relates to its relationship with neighboring cities such as Milwaukee and Waukesha - both cities were originally built on land that once belonged to the original settler families who lived there before moving onto more current sites elsewhere in these cities or else selling or exchanging parcels thereof over time. This process has left some unique clues about what life was like back then when these municipalities were established - for example, you can find evidence that streets named Michigan Avenue or State Street may have originated specifically within walking distance of each other rather than having separate names given to them later on!
