Oak Creek is a town in Green County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Oak Creek was John Thornton who arrived in 1836. The town was named after an oak tree that stood near the original site of the town. The first post office was established in 1836 and it served as the towns only village until 1861 when it became a separate town. In 1871, Oak Creek incorporated as a city and its mayor was elected by popular vote rather than from among its citizens. In 1940, Oak Creek merged with Green Bay to form the Milwaukee metropolitan area. In 1969, Oak Creek voters passed a measure to annex much of Downers Grove into their city because that community had outgrown its population and annexed more land than either of its predecessor towns could support without breaking federal law limiting annexation to municipalities with a population of 100,000 or more residents at any given time. The merger did not standup to legal challenge and Downers Grove seceded from Oak Creek on November 3rd, 1969. In 2000, following an effort by Mayor Tom Barrett to renumber all Ofcreek Village streets (except for Manor Road) as quick-fire alley street names beginning with "O" beginning with 2001 through 2009 due to lack of funds for street renaming project; Oak creek's last name reverted back to "Township". As part of this process no new businesses were opened within Ofcreek Village during those years so most residents are still referred to as "Township residents."

The Potawatomi tribe lived here before angling for salmon led them out of this area in large numbers during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Other groups that have inhabited this area include the Menominee tribe which hunted game here until about 1840; the Kaskaskia tribe which used oak trees for ceremonial purposes from about 1000 AD until about 1850; and finally, white European settlers who arrived starting in 1795 began exploring this area. One such settler was Isaac Brock who built his own log cabin near present-day Appleton in 1795 while he explored what is now Milwaukee County looking for land for his new company Brock & Company Land Company Limited. Today there are several businesses located within or close to downtown Appleton that continue to serve as important economic engines for both local communities and central Wisconsin. These businesses include Hennepin Air Force Base (which houses military activity), Waukesha Brewing Company (a major player in American brewing), Phillips Electronics (owned by Dell Inc.), Foxconn Technology Group USA (the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile electronics) and numerous other small businesses clustered around Highway 10 between Appleton and Oshkosh – all part of one large ecosystem that provides jobs throughout central Wisconsin.,

In 1872, a sawmill and grist mill were built in Oak Creek. The town started to grow rapidly and by 1890, it had a population of around 100 people.
