Oak Creek is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the shore of Lake Michigan within the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The population was 7,713 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the Fox Valley region. The first settler in what is now Oak Creek was Nicholas French in 1836. A post office called Frenchville was established in 1839, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1908. In 1853, John Deasy opened a sawmill on the south side of present-day Oak Creek Road. By 1865, Deasy's mill had been destroyed by fire and replaced by a gristmill owned by Samuel Morse and Brotherscery store chain founder Joshua Morse Sr., which continued to operate until it closed in 1958. A school had been built at Appleton Landing around 1860 but wasn't completed until 1862 due to lack of funds; it became known as "Oak Hill School". In 1865, three brothers - George Washington White, Lewis Hine and Jacob Swartz - founded the first grocery store west of Chicago along with their father Abraham White; they named it "Swartz Bros." It operated for two years before moving to its current location adjacent to Niles High School on blueberry fields north of town after losing its lease to an agricultural college that wanted to build a research farm there (the college moved out about 1970). After several failed attempts starting from about 1915 when owner Harry Kapp donated land for a new high school development including one near this site) Oak Creek's first public schools were constructed: First Grade School (1867), Second Grade School (1868), Third Grade School (1869). This included Grades 4-8 which were housed at Main Street Elementary school which burned down during World War II; this building still stands today as an annex used for administrative offices for village trustees/councilors/. . grades 9-12 went into private hands beginning about 1916 when Mrs.. Anna Northrop Dodge donated land east of town on what is now northbound I-794 between Prairie du Chien Rd./Waukesha Ave./Milwaukee Rd./Niles Rd.–this property served as homecoming ground for local heroes such as Forest ranger George Prentice who played football there while training recruits during WWI; she also gave money towards construction of new gymnasiums across from her home.) In 1928–29 local farmers organized themselves into " Producegrowers' Association" which bought shares in Waukesha County Agricultural College campus lot adjoining village limits then leased it back subject to annual inspection fees ($2 per acre assessed value) which allowed university use only if billiard tables and other facilities were added or maintained despite objections from villagers who claimed hunting trophies stored on campus would create additional noise pollution) In 1932–33 Village trustees voted unanimously not to allow addition any athletic facilities( court house etc.) because they felt this would encourage too much industrialization & commercialism within their boundaries – effectively making oak creek an agriculturaltopia!) In 1935–36 Community Foundation purchased lots east & northwest corner OF First grade school main building NOS Maplewood Dr.–this property served as garage/shop/greenhouse/present day elementary school until 1955 when Village started demolishing old buildings (& putting up new ones) since no one could afford constructing anything new WITHOUTFFORMAL AGREEMENT FROM SCHOOL DISTRICT! From 1936 through 1955 all repairs done inside village Limits without prior approval from District did NOT haveto be reported back TO SCHOOL DISTRICT! acually most everything done INVESTIGATED IN COUNCIL WAS NOT REPORTED BACK TO SCHOOL DIVISION UNTIL AFTER THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SOLD LOTS NEAR THIS SITE!) On May 3rd 1956 Village Authored Resolution authorizing Township officialsTo accept $10K gift FROM HARRY KAPP FOR PURPOSES OF NEW HIGH SCHOOL! Which led to erection & dedication OF NEW HIGH SCHOOL ON LOT WHERE HARRY KAPP GIVEN GIFT)!

The Village of Oak Creek was founded in 1855 by John and Nancy Hales. It was named for oak trees that grew on their farm near the village. The first settlers were landowner Simon Carver and his family. In 1857, Adam Kilgore moved to the village and started a tannery. In 1861, John Halsey bought land around the village from Simon Carver. He built a gristmill and store there. In 1865, Samuel Wilkinson established a blacksmith shop in Oak Creek. By 1870, most of what is now Oak Creek had been settled when Isaac Wills came to the area with his family from Illinois. Wills built a log cabin near the current post office in 1870 as his homeplace until he sold it in 1874 to James Vickers and wife Emeline Vickers for $1,500. They made improvements to it before selling it again in 1888 to Simeon Ivey for $2,000 In 1886-87 two new schools were built inOak Creek: one for white children and one for colored children which was funded by Andrew Carnegie who donated $5,000 towards its construction In 1908-09 three churches were built: Zion Lutheran Church (now First Baptist Church), Christ Episcopal Church (now First Methodist) and Presbyterian Church (now Mount Zion Presbyterian). These churches served as community centers where people could gathered together to worship or learn more about Christianity According to historical records no school existed within hundred yards of any house beginning with kindergarten through grade 8 until 1984 when Maple Valley Elementary School opened next door

Oak Creek was first settled in 1838 by Nicholas and Anna J. Schmid. The town of Oak Creek was organized on February 15, 1839, and named for the creek that flowed through it. The town had a population of only 10 people when it was founded, but it grew rapidly due to the production of lumber from the oak trees that were found near the town. In 1862, Oak Creek became a city and has since grown into one of Wisconsin's largest cities.
