The post-war period saw major population changes as families left downtown for suburban homes orOttoDix Boulevard served primarily as a reactionary avenue for white flight from black neighborhoods eastofMilwaukee Avenue." Economic stagnation followed until various civic programs caused substantial redevelopment beginninginthe late 1990s which has resulted in increased commercial activity along OttoDix Boulevard and additional residential development elsewhere withinNewBerlin limits."
