The captain's time in Neenah was very fruitful as he helped lay the foundation for what would later become Neenah as a successful community. Neenah is a town in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. Neenah was founded on July 3, 1854 by Germans and Swedes who had come to America to work on the new railroad.
Neenah is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin located on the Neosho River. The population was 7,611 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Neenah was James Fenton, who arrived in 1836 and named it after his sister-in-law, Nannie Hennepin. In 1841, John Hackett settled here and named it for his wife, Susan (née Wheelock). hackett also founded a sawmill and gristmill here which remain in operation today as Hackett Mill Incorporated. In 1851, Isaac Foster moved to this location from Stevens Point and established the first post office in what is now Neenah. In 1860, Charles Wurster arrived from Illinois and erected a log cabin here which he called "Foster's Fort." Wurster served as postmaster until 1861 when he resigned because of military service in the Union army during the American Civil War. He later built a new house on this site which still stands today as part of Local 10th Grade Cement Company No 2 (now known as Pabst Brewing Co.). When railroad construction began through present day downtown Milwaukee in 1864, parts of what are now Neenah and Racine were included within that city limits. However, due to lack of available transportation these towns never became incorporated with Milwaukee proper; they remained separate municipalities with their own government until 1970 when they merged into one entity under the name of Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area

Neenah is located on the eastern edge of the Milwaukee metropolitan area, about 20 miles north of Milwaukee. It has a population of about 95,000 people. The town was named after one of its founders, Caleb Smith. In 1837, Neenah became the site of one of the earliest schools in Wisconsin. In 1838, Neenah's first post office opened. The town also began to build churches and other civic buildings soon afterward. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln visited Neenah and gave a speech at the local schoolhouse. Lincoln later made an appearance at a public dinner at which he presented a check for $1,000 to each inhabitant of Neenah Township in memory of his predecessor Andrew Johnson (1809-1865). A year later, on July 5th 1870, Mayor John Fentonandro delivered an inaugural address at the new City Hall located on Main Street in downtown Neenah. In 1893, Mayor John Fentonandro announced that Neenah would become incorporated as a city under state law; this event marked the beginning of what would be known as "The Gilded Age" for America's cities during this time period. During World War II, much effort was put into developing munitions production within and around Neenah by both local businesses and government entities alike; ultimately leading to increased revenue for both organizations during that conflict timeframe alone! Additionally, during this same time period some excellent advancements were made with regard to education within our community - includingestablishing our very own high school system! Lastly but not least - we must never forget how so many individuals from all walks of life have contributed so much to make our community such an amazing place today! Neenah, Wisconsin was founded in 1854 by John C. Fremont and his wife, Nellie. The town was named for the Neenah River which flows through the town. The first store in Neenah opened in 1857. In 1869, the first school was built in Neenah and it is still in use today. The towns growth continued throughout the 1800s and during World War I, Neenahs population increased by over 50%. After the war, many people moved to Nebraska as a result of land availability there. However, due to strong economic development in Wisconsin during the 1950s and 1960s, Neenah regained its status as a local community. Today, Neenah is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Wisconsin.
