Neenah, Wisconsin is a town located in the town of Waukesha, Wisconsin on the north shore of Lake Michigan. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Combined Statistical Area. The first permanent resident of Neenah was John Proctor in 1835, who built a cabin on the east side of what is now Main Street. He and his wife were among the earliest white settlers in this area. The first post office in Neenah was established in 1836, and served for six years. In 1839, Rev. Denton Hurd helped found Trinity Episcopal Church here. His son-in-law Drury founded The Lutheran School in 1840; it became one of the largest private schools in Wis., teaching grades seven through twelve until 1959 when it merged withWisconsin State University to form UW-Madison. In 1846, Jno Calkins came to this area from Iowa to build a sawmill on what is now Oak Creek Road near present day Neenah High School. His milling operation soon became significant and produced flour that was sold throughout Northwestern Wisconsin and beyond via wagon train routes into Illinois and Minnesota (the latter trip being made by Means brothers). Most importantly however, Calkins’ operations generated lumber which formed much of the foundation for many local businesses and homes including: Winnebago Lumber Co.; Masonic Lodge No 1; First National Bank (now Wells Fargo); Peet's Drug Store; Armour Hotel; Methodist Episcopal Church (now First Baptist Church); Pabst Brewery; Interurban Railroad Depot (now Sears). The early 20th century saw great progress brought about by advancements such as electricity which allowed mills to be mechanized while also allowing farmers to grow crops larger than ever before thanks to irrigation systems installed during World War I – all while still needing labor only for harvest time! This growth continued into recent times with numerous new businesses opening up including: KFC; Shopko's Department store chain precursor to Sears & Roebuck Inc.; Applebees restaurant chain precursor to Wendy's Restaurants Inc.; Ford Motor Company dealership representativeially across several states starting with their Willow Park plant outside Milwaukee before moving production closer to Dearborn Heights where they remain today - creating an amazing cross sectional view that can be seen from almost anywhere within walking or biking distance! Neenah, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin that was founded by German immigrants in 1836. The population was 709 at the 2010 census, down from 824 at the 2000 census. Neenah is located on the Fox River in Dane County and is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Neenah were Mathias and Friedrich Vogt who arrived in 1836 from Germany. In 1840, Johannes Fritsche also moved to Neenah with his family and began trading goods with local farmers. By 1851, there were 10 families living in Neenah and it had a total population of 508. In 1866, Revorge Weber bought land near present-day Neenah from George Witherspoon for $250 cash which he donated to build a Lutheran church and schoolhouse on it. In 1865, John Jerman purchased 1/4 mile (1 km) east of present-day Neenah from Jacob Kossuth for $100 cash which he donated to found the Lutheran Zion Church & School District No 1 (later known as Lutheran Christian Brethren Churches). The plat for this church was filed on October 9, 1865 with the office of Platting Agent Zachariah Bisdell.. On November 6th 1865, groundbreaking took place for what would later become St Joseph’s Catholic Church when Revorge Weber united with other congregations of German Lutherans to form Evangelical Lutheran Synod #2 (later known as United Methodist churches). Neenah post office opened on December 12th 1850 under name “Egan” due to lack of an opening within WI post offices at that time; however “Neenah” became available on January 3rd 1861 after US Postmaster General Michael Tappan awarded title to WI post office (#5) because longitude changes had occurred between then - original NEENAH location being southwest corner of village square west side now occupied by First CongregationalChurch (& attached buildings), then new building NEENAH square having been erected since original structure fire Jan 1861; & second grant given Sept 1862 due to increasing demand for mail service across river; finally Oct 20th 1870 reopened using name “Neenahs” effective Nov 25th 1870″ – Scenic Route booklet 1988 The first school building was built in 1863 by Reverend George Weber and operated out of ground floor room inside current First CongregationalChurch which served as school until 1913 when it burned down . A new school was built shortly thereafter but again burned down . A third school building was built along today's High Street but it too burned down . The fourth and current School Building opened its doorsAugust 15th 1976 through efforts by Mrs Gail Hadden & Friends Incorporated ; previously used as Woolworth store before that date In 1886 Revorge Weber started donating land off High Street into what would become Pioneer Park which still stands today including a playground! This donation coincided with findings that lead scientist Dr Charles Lyman developed technology called Radium therapy here while working at University Of Chicago A monument or plaque dedicated to him can be seen near intersection of Main Street/Pioneer Park Drive currently home to Kohl's Department Store
