After some more negotiations between city officials and the business owners, both reopened within days under new ownership. Today, Muskego features an active downtown area complete with restaurants and nightlife options as well as several churches including St John's Episcopal Church which overlooks Lake Michigan. Skiing is popular here due to abundant snow cover throughout most of the year; however fishing is also available in many places around the lake shoreline.

They were members of the Hennepin Expedition, which was sent to explore and map the new land that would soon be called Wisconsin. In 1836, Muskego became part of the Dakota Territory when it was acquired by Minnesota under the terms of the Treaty of Medicine Lodge. In 1851, afterMinnesota's admission into the Union as a state, Muskego became part ofWisconsin under its new constitution. At this time it joined many other counties in southeastern Wisconsin in forming what is now known as WisconSawtooth County. During World War II, Muskego played an important role in producing munitions for America's war effort. The local paper mill produced over 500 million rounds of ammunition from 1942 to 1945 alone. Additionally,Muskego served as headquarters for U S Forces European Command during Operation Overlord (1944-1945). The community has experienced various stages throughout its history including being farmland used for crops and then becoming an industrial center; experiencing growth during both World Wars due to production at its local paper mill; following economic decline during the late 20th century; and most recently experiencing gentrification caused by rising housing prices within walking distance of all major shopping centers across Milwaukee and Chicago.

During World War II, Muskego served as a military airfield providing support for the Allied forces bombing Nazi Germany. After the war ended, the town began to decline as manufacturing jobs moved out and residents lost interest in living close to industry. However, through various redevelopment initiatives over the past few decades, Muskego has slowly regained some former industrial glory - most notably with its resurgence as an arts destination dating back to 1999 when it joined Milwaukee’s Riverwest Arts District (RWAD). Today,Muskego is an attractive place to live and work due to its many unique attractions including its wide variety of retail businesses and restaurants along with several high-quality public schools which provide opportunity for both locals and outsiders to enjoy excellent educational opportunities.
