Gun parts history in Muskego, Wisconsin began with the first firearms in this town on December 3, 1836. The first gun was a pocket pistol made by George Weiser and distributed to troops during the Mexican-American War. The town's first rifle was purchased from Wm. H. Doane on October 1, 1839. It was a .50 caliber muzzleloader that used black powder as ammunition. A local blacksmith named John Gorman built the rifle and it is still displayed at the town Hall today. In 1840, Muskego purchased its first cannon from Ohio Company of artillerymen for $1,000. It was a 12-pounder smoothbore cannon that could fire shot up to 100 yards and could be manned by one person. On November 14, 1846, Muskego hired Daniel Boone as its first sheriff and he served until his death on February 11, 1847. He is credited with being the first law enforcement officer in Muskego County. In 1865, Muskego became part of Dakota Territory when that state was created following the Civil War and it remained an unincorporated community until January 1, 1889 when it became a census tract within Milwaukee County

The first firearms in Muskego County were rifles and shotguns. The first muskets were purchased by George Stephenson in the early 1800s. A man named John Bowman bought a piece of land east of town in 1827, and began to build a log cabin. He named his property Muskegon Heights. In 1828, Bowman built a gristmill on the bluffs overlooking the river. This mill is now known as the Bowman Museum. In 1861, when America was embroiled in the Civil War, local gunsmiths produced firearms for Union soldiers and their families. One of thesegunsmiths was Jedediah Smith, who had his shop at 612 Main Street in Muskego Heights for over fifty years. Smith was well-known for making high-quality cannons and rifles for both Union and Confederate forces. By 1865, Muskegon Heights had become home to two gunsmith shops: one run by Jedediah Smith himself and another by Elijah Howe Sr., brother of Elijah Howe Jr., who owned a store next door. The gunfire that erupted during the war must have been deafening; this area still retains many gunshot holes from that time period. After the war, smiths turned their attention to creating new types of firearms including revolvers and pistols (the latter becoming popular among farmers). One such pistolsmith was Elias Howe Sr.'s son Elijah (1824-1911), who opened his own shop on Second Avenue near State Street in 1871. His business thrived until he died young at only forty-two years old; his son continued it into the twentieth century under several different names until it finally closed down in 1957 discarding all its equipment save some guns still remaining today at 612 Main Street). Muskego is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. The village of Muskego is located within the town. The first people to live in what is now Muskego were the Menominee. They built their villages on both sides of the Muskoka River and began trading with other tribes there. In 1836, James Fenton founded a post office here and named it after his home state of Michigan. By 1840, Muskego had two stores, one for settlers and one for traders. On January 1, 1846, Muskego became a township due to land acquisition by the Town Board from John M. Goodrich and others in that year's consolidation of Douglas County townships. On March 25 of that year, Postmaster General Amos Kendall authorized payment for $1 per capita annual dues to be issued by the newly created township hall Committee on Roads and Streets; this draft ordinance became effective on April 1st and remains in effect today. The first school boards were formed here: School District No 2 (1847), School District No 3 (1848), School District No 4 (1849), School District No 5 (1850), etc.. In 1853-54 there was only one school building which served all seven schools within the Township boundaries- this building burned down in 1865 but was replaced by a new frame structure which still serves as the current school board meeting place! In 1861-62 an addition was made to our present high school which housed grades 9-12 when it opened! In 1911 local farmers organized what we now know as The Agricultural Society of Muskego Inc., becoming involved early with cooperative Extension work being done throughout our area at that time! Our group continues to serve agricultural needs through its membership today! Muskego also has some interesting places associated with it such as "Huckleberry Hill" - where President Abraham Lincoln once spent time while campaigning before his inauguration - "The Rocks" - an overlook overlookingriver below which can be reached via jogging or hiking trails - "Old World" Clothing Store - open continuously since 1907 - yes really...that old world clothing store still stands closed up inside...and yes...it's been around since 1907 too ;)

In 1860, Muskego became a city and it has since grown into a small community with over one thousand residents. Muskego is home to many cultural attractions such as an art museum, library, theater and several restaurants and cafes. It also has a variety of businesses including banks and health care providers. There are several parks within walking distance of the city limits that offer various activities such as swimming, playing football or basketball, or reading books outdoors under natural light at night.
Mushkego was founded in 1854 by John A. Muskegon. The town was named after the Muskego River, which flows through it. In 1916, the village of Muskego merged with the town of Oshkosh to form the current municipality.
