Muskego, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Muskego County. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. The Muskego River forms much of its border with Minnesota and Denmark. The first Europeans to visit what is now Muskego County were French traders who reported seeing "a great many fish in the rivers" in 1657. By 1763, most of present-day Muskego County had been laid out when a group of Englishmen led by Simon Cameron explored the area and named it for General John musketeers who had helped lead British forces against American revolutionaries during the American Revolution. In 1836, land east of Milwaukee was organized as Racine County, then Waukesha County, before becoming Milwaukee County in 1847. The town of Muskego was platted on March 10, 1865 by commissioners from five townships within what is now Muskego County: Appleton (1865), Bay View (1866), Bolton (1868), Brown Deer (1870), Greenfield (1872) and Hudson Falls (1901). The town's first post office opened on May 3, 1872. It closed on July 1, 1908 due to high postage rates imposed by Congress after allegations that mail being sent through Muskegos had been intercepted by Ulysses S. Grant's administration during his presidential campaign trail tour through Wisconsin as part of his efforts to discredit Polk's victory over Grant in the election that year). In 1915 there were only 8 people living in Muskego; however soon after prohibition began there were an estimated 15-20 businesses located throughout town which supplied alcohol to residents until repeal led to widespread bootlegging operations across the country around this time On November 30th 1920 local resident Ethel Hargrave set off a spark that would become one of history when she lit an oil lamp near her home while sitting outside smoking cigarsillo cigars nightly thereby starting what would eventually become known as "the Cigarette Lights Building" which still stands today inside downtown MUSKEGO! This building served as both a storefront for cigarrettes sales and also housed both local government services such as clerk/recorder duties and fire department station #2 until it burned down in 1984 but left behind several important historical artifacts including a photo dated 1907 showing Mayor James Ahern coming down Main Street with his horse & buggy service

Muskego, Wisconsin is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,817 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from the local Ojibwe language word meaning "water place." The first permanent settler in Muskego was John C. Kapp and his family who arrived in 1837. They built a log cabin on the bank of the Muskego River. In 1844, they married Eliza Jane Hutton and started to grow crops and raise livestock on their farmstead. A post office was established in Muskego in 1847, and it remained open until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1865, Isaac Sibley bought land east of Muskego Creek and founded Sibley City which became Muskego after he sold his interest in it to the Town Board of Door County for $10 per acre (the equivalent of about US$1 per square foot). The city had an annual budget of $2,500 and grew rapidly with numerous shops, a Mechanics Institute (1871), churches (1901), schools (1905-present), an opera house (1911) and other public buildings were constructed over time. By 1920 there were over 1,000 residents living within city limits alone In 1907–08 a fire burned down part of Sibley City; this event led to new development around what is now downtown Muskego with brick buildings being erected soon afterwards as insurance covers or business ventures could not be originated due to loss caused by fire damage such as when Bridge View Creamery & Cheese building collapsed during prohibition era because liquor licensing laws did not change until 1933) A bridge across the river connecting Sibley City with downtown Muskego was built following completion of construction on Main Street between North First Street/Church Road and South Third Street/East Second Avenue in 1918 In 1951 voters passed a resolution condemning McCarthyism although no action ever took place against him
The town of Muskego was founded in 1853 by a group of men from the area around Green Bay. The name is derived from the Ojibwe word "muskeg" meaning “a place where deer abound.”
