Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin is a small town in the eastern part of the state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The town is located in Racine County. The first settlement in what became Mount Pleasant was made on October 15, 1838 by John and Nancy Potts from Hardin County. They named their new community "Mount Pleasant" after their home place of Mount Pleasant, Kentucky. The first settler in what became Mountpleasant was Mrs. Jane Hockaday who arrived with her husband George Hockaday on November 4, 1838. They were the only couple to live in the community for more than one year because they had two children at that time: Mary and John Hockaday Jr.. Mrs. Jane's husband died very suddenly on January 6th 1840 while they were away travelling to Waukesha County to pick up some lumber he had been selling there and she took over his business running it until his death six months later onJanuary 10th 1840 aged 53 years old. She was buried next to him at Maple Hill Cemetery nearpresent-day Mt Pleasant when he died three days before her birthday which made her age almost 50 years old at the time of her burial! John Hockaday Jr., born about 1839 in Mountpleasant, inherited his mother's share of their father's business and continued it until 1865 when it merged with another company run by his great uncle John Ayer Sr.. In that year John Ayer Sr.'s sonGeorge Ayer bought all remaining stock from his father making him owner-operator for the rest of his life! In 1916 George Ayer donated all but one acre (or 31%)of present day Mountpleasant Village land to local school board trustees who built a high school on that land which still stands today as United School District #3 High School - now known as Plainfield High School! Mount Pleasant is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the right bank of the Wabash River. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of Green Bay metropolitan area.
