Mount Pleasant is a small town in the state of Wisconsin. The population was 753 at the 2010 census, down from 810 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area. Mount Pleasant is located on the eastern border of Green Bay and is bordered by Racine to the north, Wausau to the east, and Sheboygan to the south. The first people to live in what is now Mount Pleasant were Quakers who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1792. They built a Meeting House on Elm Street in 1824. The town was platted in 1835 and named for John Quincy Adams, 3rd President of America. In 1855, Mount Pleasant became a city and was incorporated as such underWisconsin law. Mount Pleasant has two churches- First Methodist Church which was built in 1886 and then additions made to it in 1912 and 1969; also there are three schools: One public school (grades Pre-K through 12th), one private school (grades K-12th), and one Catholic school (grades 9-12). There are also several businesses including four grocery stores, two banks, two insurance companies, one doctor's office/clinic, one post office/mail carrier service, two restaurants/bars/cafes/, three churches (First Methodist Church & two catholic parishes), sixervesgas stations with over 20 brands of gasoline available throughout WI., an auto parts store/repair shop/, a lumberyard/, three golf courses -one municipal golf course (), four miles of trails perfect for hiking or biking,, five acres of parkland including a playground/, six inches of rain per year,. There have been many changesover time concerning Mountpleasant as well as other communities within Green Bay metropolitan area since its incorporation into Wisconsin law back on October 1st 1865 when John Quincy Adams established it as an unincorporated Village situated along his home road called "Mount Pleasant." Extensions were granted for businesses that would be located off main streets like Elm St., Vine St., Prospect Ave., Cedar Rd., State Hwy 15W (& more recently US 31) while others were added around current day neighborhoods such as Sheboygan Heights & Grafton Township where homes once sat today with no business serving them like today's Business Park Place just beyond her borders! Many residents here today fought & died during World War II so their memories live on thru our military heritage some still carry medals brought back home physical evidence still exists alluding our history lessons local newspapers articles written during that time period can be found online if you search hard enough! Mount Pleasant is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Racine County. The population was 2,011 at the 2010 census. It is located on the right bank of the White River, about south of Milwaukee. The town was founded by Germans in 1833 as a toll road stop on the Whitewater River between Milwaukee and Racine. The name derived from Mount Pleasant Township, in which it wassituated. In 1835, it became an independent village when all of Racine County was created from part of Milwaukee County. In 1855, Mount Pleasant became a city with a population of 3,000 people when its boundaries were adjusted to match those of Milwaukee and Racine Counties outside their original borders. At that time, Mount Pleasant also annexed portions of West Allis and Waukesha counties to form its new city limits. In 1902, Mountpleasant merged with Greenfield into one municipality under the leadershipship of Mayor Olaus Sorensen and City Administrator Julius Pohlman-Meyerhoff. This merger made Greenfield's municipal government separate from that within Mountpleasant and allowed for more centralized planning for both towns' economies and services throughout their combined jurisdictions than had been possible before due to their varying sizes and functions as villages/cities/. Additionally, this merger eliminated many individual streets within Mountpleasant's boundaries so as to make better use of open space within the two municipalities while still preserving most community character traits unique to each town (e.g., churches). The following year saw another major change when Mayor Sorensen died suddenly after serving three terms as mayor; his wife Margaretha took over mayoral duties until he could be replaced by someone who would also have children (effective immediately upon her succession). Consequently, Margaretha served out her fourth term as mayor before becoming vice president for administration/city manager; she would serve in that position until she retired effective January 1st 2009 after 26 years with the city management team
The first white people to live in Mount Pleasant were the Menominee Indians. The first European to visit Mount Pleasant was Captain John Fitch, who explored and charted the area in 1792. The first town on the site was founded by Henry Goodyear in 1836, and it was known as Goodyearville. In 1857, the town name was changed to Mount Pleasant after General George Custer's death at Little Bighorn. The community experienced a period of growth during World War II when many businesses were opened up due to military demand for munitions. However, the population declined following the war and there has been no significant growth since then.
