Mount Pleasant is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The community began as a farmstead on the east side of the Milwaukee River in 1836 and became an incorporated village in 1907. It was named for Mount Pleasant Township, in which it was located. The first settler in Mount Pleasant was John Haines who arrived from Maine in 1836. He built a cabin on the east side of the Milwaukee River. Other early settlers included Peter Kapp and Isaac Johnson. A school house and cemetery were erected around this time. In 1841, Captain Ebenezer Green purchased land to the south of Mount Pleasant and laid out what would become Mount Pleasant Township. He called his new township "Mountpleasant." In 1906, the village of Mount Pleasant annexed part of neighboring Chilton Village which had been formed two years earlier by merger of two smaller villages – Wauwatosa and West Allis – due to differences over library resources between those two communities. The annexing process resulted in nearly doubling the population of Mount Pleasant from 1,500 residents to 3,000 residents within 10 months; however, only about 50% of these people lived within the annexed limits since there were still large rural areas remaining unincorporated within Racine County at that time. These rural areas continued to be unincorporated until 1959 when Racine County joined with Milwaukee County to form its present form as a result of state legislation related to nationwide transportation reforms known as "The Great Commission." As a result of this consolidation policy change - coupled with rising home prices throughout much OFW – many small towns across Wisconsin lost their resident populations or even disappeared altogether during this period (e.g., Appleton & Oak Creek among them). Mountpleasant experienced a similar fate as other small towns throughout WI when waves of transplanted Midwesterners moved into these municipalities during this era looking for opportunities for economic growth while also seeking more accessibility to higher-priced suburbs outside metropolitan areas such as Chicago and Detroit where they could afford these properties (although some residents did remain inside municipalities through annexation). However, unlike most other small towns which experienced rapid growth during this time period owing largely to immigration rather thanoutsourcing local services or job creation – such changes did not occur with Mountpleasant; instead, most residents left during or soon after World War II because property values beganto drop rapidly following technological advancements that made agriculture no longer economically feasible without upgraded equipment or soil improvements (the same thing happened unto numerous otherWI communities during this era). Today remnants of what once were active farms can still be seen scattered throughout downtown Mtpleasant although all but one building has been demolished since 1960; several businesses have closed too including several auto parts stores along with two grocery stores before they merged into one large store called Walmart; while three churches remain active serving mostly retired military members & their families living off-site) ..... priorobjdate: 4/2/2015

Mount Pleasant is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The town was organized on March 20, 1854, from parts of the towns of West Allis and Monona. The first post office was established in Mount Pleasant on July 8, 1855. On November 14, 1860, the town voted to become a city and it became one on December 15 of that year. The first mayor was John Smedley. The Cameo Theater opened its doors in 1925 and played host to many local concerts and plays before becoming derelict in the early 2000s. However, it has been restored as a museum with exhibits about Mount Pleasant history and culture since 2007. The nearby Mendota Agricultural Experiment Station also features displays about agriculture in Racine County during this time period as well as antiques from throughout the world which were collected by scientists at Mendota during this time period
In 1871, the first post office in Mount Pleasant was established. The town was named for General John P. Morrill, who had been a major general in the Union army during the Civil War. The town grew rapidly and by 1892 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1903, Mount Pleasant became an incorporated community with a population of around 200 people.
