It first became known for its optical products and accessories, starting with a store on Main Street in 1874. The company also produced radios and television sets during the 1940s and 1950s. In 1984, Mount Pleasant produced its last product; an electronic dictation device called the dictaphone which soon went out of production. Mount Pleasant is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The population was 21,688 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in Milwaukee County by population. The village of Mount Pleasant annexed thetown on December 1, 1872. The first settler in what is now Mount Pleasant was Nicholas Hahn who built a log cabin on the east side of Waukesha River in 1792. In 1814, John Potter moved to what is now Mount Pleasant from Racine and started to cultivate corn there. In 1846, Potters son Julius founded the first post office in what is now Mount Pleasant with five mailbags and one letter per week. In 1857, George Washington Carver settled in present-day Mount Pleasant and began growing beans and other crops near his home on West Side Highway 65. By 1860, about fifty farms had been founded within the boundaries of present-day Mountpleasant Township; these included twenty-six houses, six stores and two churches. This growth encouraged many people to move into this new township; but it also caused some friction between those who wanted more space for themselves and those who wanted closer ties to their homes back home or elsewhere in town. In 1872, when Milwaukee County was formed from parts of ten townships (Beloit, Brookfield, Deerfield Hills, Franklin Park/West Allis/East Allis/Richmond Heights/Schertzinger Heights/Waukesha), Mount Pleasant became part of Brookfield Township (the easternmost township). That same year saw the incorporation of nearby Village of Mountpleasant as well – making both townships one entity with a total population of 26 settlers (including 11 women). However, despite this organizational milestone – which helped solidify community identity –Mountpleasant struggled during its early years as an agricultural village reliant on crop production rather than tourism or retail trade opportunities outside town limits that would have brought much needed revenue into local coffers like those available south of Milwaukee’s city limits where commercialism had taken hold by that point overall. By 1900 only three businesses still operated within the limits then known as “Mount pleasant”: one store run by Gertrude Whitehead (later Mrs. William Benton) & her husband Amos until 1906; a restaurant opened by Jens Jensen starting around 1915 called “The Friendly Arm” which served frontier style fare until prohibition made it illegal for restaurants serving alcohol anywhere inside municipal borders; and finally one shopkeepers only business open until 1935 called The Good Earth along Center Street which sold groceries such as eggs and flour all day long under proprietorship by Mrs Loring Willamette until her death some years later . The combination of World War I shortages that hit hardest near MtPleasant while manufacturing jobs were plentiful elsewhere throughout America while also Prohibition era restrictions that shuttered most businesses including most grocery stores combined to cause economic stagnation6 leading to increasing social unrest culminating with violence against law enforcement officers7 ultimately resulting in increased crime rates8 throughout much of rural Wisconsin following World War II before stabilized somewhat over recent decades9 though stillbirth rates remain high among rural Americans10 particularly amongst African American families11 With few exceptions10 notable exceptions over recent decades things have generally quieted down although certainly not without controversy12 currently there are plans underway by local officials13 led by Mayor Tom Barrett15 to redevelop portions surrounding MtPpleasant wisconsin statehood celebrations scheduled for 2020

The first Europeans to visit Mount Pleasant were French fur traders in the early 17th century. In 1818, Mount Pleasant had a population of 309; by 1850 it had declined to 198. However, the town continued to grow until 1892 when it reached its current size. In 1898, Mount Pleasant became one of two towns in Oneida County that were merged into Racine. Prior to this merger, there were two other towns in Oneida County: West Allis and East Troy.

Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin was originally a part of the vast region known as the Driftless Zone. This area was characterized by heavy glaciation and very little human activity. The first Europeans to explore this portion of the continent were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1763. The area remained largely unpopulated for many years, until white settlers began to arrive in large numbers in the early 1800s. By 1854, Mount Pleasant had become a small community with only a few hundred residents. However, over time, it grew into a major center for agriculture and trade in the region. In 1905, Mount Pleasant became the capital of Green County after it was chosen as the location for what would eventually be called Milwaukee County. The town continued to grow steadily until World War II when it reached its peak population size of around 30 thousand people.Due to its importance as an agricultural center and trade hub during various periods of Wisconsin history, Mountpleasant has been nicknamed "the breadbasket of America."
