Mount Pleasant is located on the south side of the River Raisin and is bordered to the east by Menomonee Falls and to the west by Milwaukee. According to the United States Census Bureau, Mount Pleasant has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²), all of it land. The name "Mount Pleasant" comes from two settlers: James Witherspoon and his family moved to what is now Mount Pleasant from Illinois in 1847; they named their farm "Pleasant Hill." There are several theories about why Washington County chose this name for its community: one suggests that it was because President George Washington had spent some time at nearby Green Bay during his presidency; another theory suggests that Mr. Witherspoon believed that he would have more friends there than he did in Illinois, since most people in Wisconsin lived near Lake Michigan or on lakeshores. In 1854, John Dutton organized a Methodist church here as part of a larger effort to start religious congregations throughout Wisconissee Valley. In 1865, members of a new Baptist congregation founded here also decided to establish their own church building – which still stands today – despite opposition from other Baptists in Racine County who felt that churches should be established near river mouths rather than distant farms and townsfolk were not needed on these remote hillsides. It was the namesake of Mount Pleasant Township which was organized in 1871. The first settler in Mount Pleasant Township was John Sennett who arrived on horseback with his family from Canada in 1853. He built a log cabin on what is now State Road 10 near present-day East Troy. In 1865, Nathaniel Hafer came to Mountpleasant and started a tannery that became one of the largest tanning businesses in the area. In 1868, Isaac Aspinwall settled hereabouts and opened an grocery store and bakery along State Road 10. By 1870, there were four stores operating within the township: two tanneries, one grocery store, and one hotel/inn. A school began operations for students in 1870 as Prairie View School #1 on east side of present day Green Lake Avenue by Reverend Moses Myrick (1827-1913). For many years it functioned as the only public education available for residents of this area outside of Milwaukee or Racine City Schools; however, starting around 1918 it began to offer evening classes as well to keep up with educational advances available within Milwaukee County Public Schools system until those classes were eliminated completely around 1984 when magnet schools took over most village/township students' education.. In 1872 when Racine County formed from part of Milwaukee County it included all of what are now Racine County townships except for Mount Pleasant where it remained part of Milwaukee County In 1924 Mount Pleasant had 3 blocks laid out - main street running northsouthwest bisecting lots 128-129E & 137R bisecting lot 130 (east side) - Breckenridge platted by George Fenton - land owner Ayer’s heirs sold right back to him 1928

Mount Pleasant is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,091 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Mount Pleasant was Abram Bicknell who arrived in 1836. He built a cabin on the present site of Mount Pleasant in 1837. The town site was surveyed and platted by John Brady in 1840. A post office was established at Mount Pleasant in 1857, and the name changed to Prairie du Chien in 1865. The first school at Mountpleasant was built on the north side of the current community block on what is now Fourth Street in 1858. In 1860, a Methodist church was built on the east side of Fourth Street and became known as the First Baptist Church of Prairie du Chien. In 1870, a hotel called The Pioneer stood on what is now Seventh Avenue between Second and Third Streets; it served as a social and commercial center for residents of Prairie du Chien until it burned down during an ice storm in 1916. In 1890, Manitowoc Manufacturing Company began operations adjacent to what is now Park Place Shopping Center; this company manufactured agricultural products such as flour and milk from start to finish with local farmers being responsible for shipping goods directly to market. The town grew rapidly due to new transportation options created by railroads which came through Green Bay Hyannis Junction Railroad Station located south of town off State Highway 151 (now Interstate 90). By 1900, over 50 businesses had opened up within blocks of each other along Broadway Street including several banks (First National Bank & Trust Company, Merchants National Bank & Trust Company), shops (Thompson's grocery store/ notions store/ feed store/ dry goods store), physician Drs James Pemberton and Wm Hickey practices (Dr J Pemberton Clinic), two churches (Methodist Episcopal Church #1E or Presbyterian Episcopal Church #2A) with brick pews replaced by wood frame structures after fire destroyed original buildings – both were dedicated May 20th 1901 In 1907 construction started on Manitowoc Union Depot which would become one of America's largest railway terminals; when completed it would serve as passenger depot for all major railroad companies serving Milwaukee County including Chicago Great Western Railway (#7), Milwaukee Road (#10), Northwestern Pennsylvania Railroad (#12), Illinois Central Railroad (#15) and Canadian Pacific Railway (#16). Passenger service ceased operations at Manitowoc Union Depot upon its demolition circa 1965 but portions have been preserved as part of the Amtrak station complex located just south of downtown . During prohibition some citizens set up shop manufacturing alcoholic beverages using stills provided by friends or family members while others engaged in black marketeering activities either buying alcohol from bootleggers or selling liquor without a license
