By 1840, Methodists had built their first church and Baptists began worshiping at First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME). The earliest Mormon missionaries arrived two years later when George Quesada opened his ranch near present-day Green Bay and baptized individuals there into The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Milwaukee experienced rapid growth during both World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945), thanks largely to its steel industry which emerged from wartime military procurement programs. Milwaukees purchasing power grew rapidly because they were among the few American cities able to build large homes without aid from private enterprise – home builders such as William Muhlenberg & Sons constructed over 200 large homes between 1914 and 1945 alone! Postwar suburban development also contributed significantly to postwar Milwaukee’s growth although some inner city neighborhoods did suffer significant decline during this time period due primarily to demolition or neglect – particularly along Lake Michigan Boulevard which runs through downtown areas today]. The area that now makes up Milwaukee was first inhabited by people from around Lake Michigan before migrating overland to what is now southeastern Wisconsin about 12,000 years ago. In 1836, when Abraham Lincoln was elected president, he traveled through Wisconsin on his way to carry out his duties as governor of Illinois. During his visit to Milwaukee, hecontracted with two local entrepreneurs – John Hargrave and James Shields –to build a road from Chicago down the Fox River into what is now southeastern WI. This road became known as Lincoln Highway and has been one of the most important transportation arteries in America ever since. The first permanent European settlers arrived in what is now Milwaukee during 1839 when Nicholas Fenton established himself at Fort Dearborn on lake Michigan’s west side. As early as May 16th of that year, Fenton had written letters patent for 2,500 acres (10km²) within present-day downtown Milwaukee authorizing him “to erect thereon an estate orfarmable country lying upon navigable water subject to cultivation by me or my successors forever” . A week later on May 23rd Fenton received a letter from Governor Stevens ordering him “notwithstanding anything herein aforesaid” not to establish any new settlements but instead continue trading with Native Americans living along the Fox River Valley near Green Bay which led directly into Lake Superior therefore preventing them from joining forces with either French or British traders who were already active in this part of Northwestern Canada In 1846 Anthony Wayne set up shop near Wauwatosa on Menomonee Creek after being granted land grants by Gov Stevens following a request made by Peter Sklarbeck who had discovered gold recently at Neskawa creek near modern day Wausau In 1847 German immigrants began arriving via IL&N Railway complex across Kankakee river at points east and south of where it exists today including what are now parts of blocks 5-7 South Side neighborhood and East Side neighborhood which formed between 1870-1890 due largely to diamond industry boomtown surge migration followed by loss/purchaseof property values caused by oil refinery construction adjacent Blocks 4 & 8 Blackstone street
Milwaukee was founded in 1836 by the Dutch and British immigrants as a town on the Milwaukee River. The first post office was established in 1837, and by 1840, Milwaukee had become an important center of commerce. In 1846, the city became the seat of government for Wisconsin, and it remained so until Walker took office in January 2013.
