Middleton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Marinette County. The population was 2,847 at the 2010 census. Middleton is located on the Fox River north-northwest of Milwaukee. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Elyria Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1857, John Shingle built a bridge over the Fox River in what is now Middleton as part of his railway construction project. The first post office was established in Middleton on July 1, 1858, by Jno.[1] A store and general store were built soon after; these establishments are still standing today and are known as Shingle's Store and Middleton General Store respectively. In 1860, George[2] Hines opened a school in what is now Middleton which served grades K-12 until 1955 when it closed due to budget cuts by then Governor Credit Unions Board member John Cavanaugh (D). The first church was organized on February 17, 1861 with Rev[3]s Wm[4] Trotter and Geo[5] Allen officiating. The present building was completed in 1865 and dedicated by Bishop James Gorman (R) who called it "A New Home for God." This new church replaced an earlier one that had been destroyed by fire in 1852. Reverend Trotter also helped finance this new church with money he had raised from livestock sales during his previousorate at nearby Green Bay Settlement near Marquette Hill Road (now North 7th Street). Reverend Trotter served as pastor until his death on October 3, 1886 after more than fifty years as an ordained minister in this area including twenty-three years as pastor at Green Bay Settlement where he also taught Sunday School for many years before becoming assistant superintendent of schools there from 1905 to 1911 before moving to middleTONe where he continued serving until his death on November 15, 1933*. In addition to Reverend Trotter’s service at Green Bay Settlement, two other pastors affiliated with that congregation – Wm Leroy Lafond (1872-1937) and Harry Rowe (1913-1973) – also served long periods stints before departing for other assignments or retirement early while others such as John Byrne (1920-1965), Willis Kearney Jr.(1925-)and William Purdy(1935-)remained longterm incumbents through several decades even beyond their retirements makingMiddleton one of longest continuously serve churches within Marquette County up until that time* *All information courtesyof Marquette County Historical Society website

Middleton was a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located in the Appleton-based Delta County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,898. Middleton is one of seven towns in Delta County that are home to the Appleton Regional Airport and five other towns have their own airports within commuting distance or close by: Barron, Butler, Dodge City, Green Bay, and Oconomowoc. The community's first post office was established in 1854. It ceased operation on May 25, 1957. The town was named after George Hinton MiddleTON who served as Governor of Wisconsin from 1859 to 1861 and as Mayor of Appleton from 1865 to 1868. The town site had been surveyed by John Dutton in 1827 but no buildings were erected until 1830 when Middleton's first store opened for business on Main Street. In 1854 the first school opened up at what is now Aitkin Elementary School with Mrs. Fenton teaching French language classes for students from rural areas near Milwaukee while her husband built a frame addition to the school which served as an opera house until 1915 when it burned down; later that year he donated land adjacent to his home which became Knowles Park and today's Aitkin High School campus sits on this land. In 1862 middleTON saw its biggest event when Union General William Tecumseh Sherman marched into Wisconsin Territory during the American Civil War raiding farms and villages along his route before returning south through Illinois where he destroyed many bridges over rivers including that at Middleton giving rise to local nickname "The Bridge Builder". After Sherman's departure most residents went back to farming or manufacturing although some joined Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee such as David Stephenson who lived on Ridgefield Road east of town; Stephenson surrendered his forces at Appomattox Court House becoming one of only four men in America ever executed without trial (the others being African Americans James Forman (1850-1915) and Solomon Northup (1851-1936)). With more than two thousand residents by 1900 there were schools open up throughout all nine wards which madeMiddleton one of the most vibrant communities in central Wisconsin during this time period with businesses like hardware store CornerStone Hardware & Tool Company opening up shop across from First Congregational Church starting outproducing general stores nearby Sears Roebuck & Co.; ice cream parlor Mother Hubbard opened up next door serving sundaes for lunch daily; Pharmacy street Drugs began operating out of what is now Bradley Drive north side across from Bradley Township Hall; three churches - Episcopal Presbytery Of Madison St., Lutheran Synod Of Central Wis., Methodist Episcopal Church started services soon after - each providing social services like orphans/childrens homes etc.; dances were held all around town every Saturday night attended by young adults dressed headto-toe wearing costumes including masks and numbers while live music playedqq In 1923 Town Meeting voted not To Add any New Streets ToTown Square But All Roads Other Than One Side OfMain Street Should Be Rebuilt qqqq due To Drainage Issues Thereabouts
