Middleton, Wisconsin is a town in the county of Dane in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Middleton was Luther King who built a cabin on the edge of what is now Middleton Lake in 1836. A post office was established at Middleton in 1849, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1854, James Bulkeley donated of land to build a gristmill and mill pond near present-day Middleton village hall. The town began to take form from early 19th century settlers who arrived here for agriculture and transportation purposes only after Congress passed an act creating township communities bylaws on April 1, 1858. On November 3, 1861, Middleton became one of twenty towns created under Act No 9 of 1862 which merged the remaining villages within Dane County into one municipality called "Middleton". At that time there were 9 hamlets within the new municipality: Addiscombe (east side), Bacon (west side), Bare Prairie (north side), Bedwin Heights (south side), Birkhäuser (west side), Cliffton Heights (east side), Deer Park (south end) and Goodhue Heights (north end). A general store opened by Hosea Mowry opened on Main Street just northeast of town limits on October 15, 1865; this store continued to be open until 1951 when it closed due to economic decline caused by suburban development around town center between 1945 and 1951 inclusive. According to the United States Census Bureau, Middleton has a total area of , all land. It is located about north-northeast of Green Bay and east-southeast of Milwaukee proper

Middleton, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Outagamie County. The population was 5,844 at the 2000 census. Middleton is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the banks of the Fox River. Middleton was platted in 1855 by George Hinkle and named for Edwin C. Middleton, a railroad executive who had come to take up land grant offers in that year. The first post office was established in 1857, and mail from Midwestern counties continued to be delivered through Middleton until 1959 when all mail became local delivery within Outagamie County only. Middleton has been an agricultural community since its founding and has played a role in many aspects of rural life and culture in Wisconsin over its history - including as home to a number of famous farmers and their families such as John Dooley (the father of Joplin), Myron Ewing (founder of Kmart), Don Ahlquist (presidential Candidate 2008), Jerrold Nadler (Upper House Majority Leader) and more recently Jay Webber (CEO, Wrigley). In recent years however, much production has shifted away from agriculture towards manufacturing such as textiles, plastics, meat products and cereal products - with some businesses still operating in agriculture but mainly processed goods sales outside the town limits. The Fox River forms most of Middleton's border with outlying townships including Apple Valley to the east, Sterling Heights to the west and Menasha to the north-west; this connection also makes it one of only a few places along North America's Great Lakes region where two rivers meet head-on without flowing into each other or separating again except for small streams which flow through both communities’ boundaries
