Middleton is best known for its agricultural products and for its community of Christmas Trees. Middleton was platted in 1855 by Horace Greeley and his brother-in-law Lemuel Green. The name comes from a large body of water on the east side of town that was called "Midsomer" because it used to be so wide and deep that no one could get through it without getting wet. In 1857, Middleton had a post office which served residents until 1888 when it became part of Waukesha County. In 1907, Middleton became a borough within the city of Milwaukee. In 1916, middleton built its first school which still stands today as the town's only public school building. At that time there were just two schools in Door County; one for children in rural areas and one for students in urban areas like Milwaukee proper or Whitefish Bayou near Racine. The first teacher to teach kids in middleton was Mrs Ethel Capps who taught from 1916 until her retirement in 1951 In 1948–49 (the last year with an active school district), middleton built their second school which also still stands today as the town's only public school building but with more classrooms and more equipment than what was available back then In 1957–58 (the year after incorporation into the city of Milwaukee), middleton built their third school which now serves as their high school Today there are six MiddleTON schools: three elementary schools (K-4th grades),onemiddle/junior high School (5-8th grade) and one senior high School (9-12th grade). Each day around 1800 children take advantage of these six Schools including Pre K thru 8th grade;Elementary Science; Math & Science; Technology classes; Language Arts classes; Afterschool program

However, during World War II middleton experienced some significant growth as war production moved into the area; by 1945 there were 15 businesses in town employing more than 100 workers. After passage of the National Defense Act on December 12, 1941 (by President Franklin D Roosevelt), middleton lost much of its wartime activity as factories closed down or went out of business due to wartime shortages; however, some small businesses did continue to thrive until after World War II ended. The postwar period brought about a number of changes for middleton; many residents left for jobs outside town during this time as well; however, others sought to maintain close ties to their community while they awaited opportunities for change within it. In 1954, voters approved referendum Question 1 which designated Middleton an unincorporated community within the Town of West Allis proper; this change formalized what had been happening since earliest days when villagers banded together to form their own municipality based on their shared interests - something that would endure until 1975 when another referendum yielded similar results when villagers voted to incorporation into West Allis again (this time effective January 1st). One important factor that has helped keep Middleton vibrant throughout these years has been its strong economic foundation - according to 2007 Census data, nearly two-thirds (63%)of Midtown's workforce are employed in services or retail trade alone! This strong economy has led to several specialties being developed withintown – such as ice cream making and catering – which have seen surges in popularity among locals and visitors alike over recent years.
