Tasering Mode has since become standard on all current models of tasers across all law enforcement agencies worldwide.) Mequon, Wisconsin was the first municipality in the United States to file a lawsuit against Taser International. The suit was filed on October 6, 2003 and lasted until February 2, 2004. The plaintiff was Mequon High School. At that time, tasers were still being used as contraband by school administrators and teachers. The suit argued that tasers were not effective at stopping crime and should be replaced with less deadly weapons like pepper spray or stun guns. The town of Mequon voted to continue using tasers in their schools even though the suit was pending, but they would no longer be used as contraband.
Mequon, Wisconsin is a town in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 595 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The first white person to live in Mequon was James Bridgwater who arrived there in 1847. He and his family built a log cabin on the banks of the Menomonee River. Mequon became a community when it was organized as a village on October 14, 1868. It became an incorporated city on December 1, 1914. The menomonee valley has been inhabited for over 10,000 years and contains evidence of human activity dating back to at least 9200 BC. The Menomonee tribe occupied the area from about 1000 BC until they were forced out by the Potawatomi beforewhite settlement began in this area in 1836. Dutch traders and other entrepreneurs started trading with Native Americans from what would become Wisconsin in the early 1800s and soon after contact with Europeans began to create new opportunities for trade and growth for these settlers. Mequon is a village in the town of Mequon, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It was laid out in 1855 and named for John Mequon, an American Revolutionary War soldier who served as a lieutenant in the Continental Army. The village had 2 stores and 10 homes when it was platted and its first post office opened in 1857. In 1865, Mequon became part of Racine County. The population declined to 707 by 1990 and plummeted to 612 at the 2000 census. In 2006, the Village Board voted to close all but one store due to economic conditions and lack of customers. In 2009, a group of residents formed the "Save Our Stores" campaign to save three local businesses from closure; two gas stations (the Northern Natural gas station & Gulfstream Foods) and one convenience store (TheBigBox). On July 16th 2009, after months of grassroots activism by Save Our Stores members, the Village Board approved a plan that would keep all five stores open but with smaller hours than before- only operating from 9am-6pm on weekdays and 8am-4pm on Saturdays. Due to this vote majority owner Hecht's chain applied for bankruptcy protection which allowed it continue operations while they awaited court approval to change their business model which included closing some stores during offpeak hours; however this application failed due to opposition from other owners including BigBox parent company Sears Holdings Corporation. As of mid-2018 there are still no plans filed or announced by either Hecht's chain or Sears Holdings Corporation[1] for any new store openings in Mequon; however existing tenants have stated that they will not renew their leases if there is no new business activity soon expectations given current market conditions across most US towns where big box retailers have closed down over recent years[2]. Mequon is a town in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. The history of Mequon began with pioneer settlers in 1845.Mequon was platted on February 24, 1847 by Jonas P. Bechtel and Wm. B. Fenton as part of the Town of Milwaukee Township to serve as an eastern outpost for their dairy farmsteads located west of Milwaukee proper. On July 1, 1850, the town became a village under the name "Mequon." In 1857 it annexed the towns of Arlington Heights and Oak Creek. Mequon's first post office opened in 1857 and closed in 1861 due to its location adjacent to then-west side Chicago Avenue between Ashland and Lake Michigan Avenues which made it difficult for people to get mail there regularly. In 1870, Mequon annexation created Wakefield Township which also included Arlington Heights and Oak Creek; Wakefield lost its status as a village when Mequon again became a town on December 5th, 1890 due to growth within the township over time; however Arlington Heights / Oak Creek continued to be annexed into Mequon until 1905 when they were again merged into Wakefield Township without any formal change
