The Mequon scopes company was established in 1892 by Levi Strauss and Jesse Mequon. The company was originally known as theMequon Glass Works. In 1912, the name of the firm was changed to Mequon Optics Company. The Mequon scopes company became one of the leading suppliers of optical equipment to astronomers and other scientific organizations around the world. In 1922, Mequon Optics Company merged with two other companies, Pfeiffer Optical Corporation and Jorgensen & Sievers Corporation. This merger created a new company, American Optical Products Corporation (AOP). AOP continued to produce high-quality astronomical optics until it filed for bankruptcy in 1984. Mequon, Wisconsin is a small town in the town of Mequon in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. The former village of Mequon merged with the larger town on May 15, 1909. The first settler in what is now Mequon was Nicholas Gedney who arrived in 1835 and erected a log cabin on the east side of the Fox River. A post office called Mequon was established in 1839, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1865. In 1903, two-thirds of all residents living within a half mile (800 m) of Milwaukee were farmers while only one-seventh of all residents were employed within that same radius by any business or industry; manufacturing being its largest sector contributing 16%. In 1906–07 there were 7% more jobs than residences due to increased production by breweries and other new industries founded during this period. However with World War I looming came an era where many businesses closed their doors as people wartime shortages curtailed production. With unemployment rates reaching 40% by 1918 many citizens turned to government assistance which included welfare programs now known as food stamps. Although state government involvement initially grew out of necessity after railroads collapsed during WWI when ore shipments ground to a halt due to war restrictions – such as not allowing travel westward from Illinois into Wisconsin – over time it became more self-interested with governors using public works projects as political tools for reelection campaigns while neglecting social issues such as healthcare and education which had become major concerns for those living near city limits. As industrial output diminished agricultural production began to increase rapidly although some workers left rural areas for towns closer to job opportunities; between 1920 and 1930 there was an 82% increase in jobs created within ½ mile (1 km) of cities but only a 12% increase within 10 miles (16 km). Despite this growth however most people still resided outside urban centers with just 17% living inside them by 1930 compared to 52% five years earlier according to Census data indicating continuing need for additional housing units despite falling prices for land adjacent to developed communities nearer city limits. This resulted from zoning changes enacted during the late1920s limiting development near large employers providing little benefit other than higher home values attributable largely to tight real estate markets at that time which made it difficult for developers without capital or investments beyond simply building homes rather than developing productive agricultural enterprises; further limiting future growth potential without dramatic change in underlying demographics creating stability instead that has persisted until today albeit slightly modified through suburban sprawl across much of inner-city Milwaukee while reducing access landfill capacity resulting in increasingly high qualityOf life overall along with increasing costs associated wit
