Mequon, Wisconsin is a small town in the town of Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area. Mequon began as two settlements: North Mequon and South Mequon. In 1875, North Mequon became a village and in 1887 it became a town. The first soft-gun case history in Mequon took place on November 3rd 1895 when James Wahlstrom bought an Iver Johnson Model “B” revolver from Rufus Burtis located at 5 N Main Street in North MequON. Mr. Burtis was the owner of a gunsmith shop located on First Avenue in South MequON which had been open for over fifty years prior to his death on October 26th1894 aged 78 years old. The Iver Johnson Model “B” revolver that Mr. Burtis purchased from JWahlstrom is still being held by the family today and resides at 715 W Wells Road within the boundaries of Menomonee Falls Park in Menomonee Falls, WI ( see map below).

Mequon is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mequon were French missionaries in 1763. In 1836, the town was organized from portions of West Allis and Waukesha counties and named for Colonel Augustus C. Meeker, who had served as administrator of Indian Territory. The first school in Mequon was built on the site of the current high school in 1839. As early as 1854, there were two churches in Mequon-Stroudsville Roads; one Lutheran and one Methodist - both Congregationalist - but these are no longer extant. In 1870, Mequon became a station on the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad and soon afterward began to grow with its importance as a railroad junction and commercial center. By 1910, it had become one of the largest towns in Wisconsin with over 100 businesses and around 1,000 residents.During prohibition era (1913-1918), prospered because local breweries produced beer for sale statewide without paying taxes which kept prices low for consumers across the state Mequon's economy changed dramatically after World War II when many manufacturing jobs disappeared due to automation by companies like Ford Motors – which transferred production to other plants – but also because of new Interstate 85 construction that bypassed town limits making it easier to move people and products within town limits during busy times such as harvest season or during night hours when faster traffic would be barred by law enforcement

Mequon was founded in 1854 by John Mequon, a German immigrant. The town was originally named Mukwonago because the early settlers found an abundance of wildflowers there. In 1881, the name was changed to Mequon after the Milwaukee River. The city and its suburbs were annexed by Milwaukee in 1924. The economy of Mequon has been based on agriculture since it was founded. Today, Mequon is a bedroom community for the city of Milwaukee. The local paper mill closed in 1981, but some remnant industries still operate in Mequon today including printing presses and plastics manufacturing companies. Agricultural production continues to be one of the mainstay industries hereabouts, with crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat and barley being grown extensively. Mequon is located about 20 miles west of downtown Milwaukee and about 25 miles east of Racine. It had a population of 2,851 as of 2000 census; 1% more than that number than live in Racine County alone! And yet Racine County's population (as well as most other Wisconsin counties) only makes up 3% or so of total Wisconsin population...mechanical engineering students at UW-Milwaukee do not have enough buildings to house their class size
Mequon was founded in 1845 by John Mequon and his wife, Nancy. The town was named for the river Mequon which passes through the town. In 1870, Mequon had a population of 100 people and it became a city in 1907. In 1971, Mequon merged with the neighboring towns of West Allis and Racine to form the city of Milwaukee.
