His company was located on what is now North Main Street in Mequon. Holmberg also manufactured swords and other hunting tools. In 1892, John Holmberg donated land to the town of Mequon for a park that would eventually be known as Park Square. The park square was home to the first public library in Milwaukee County and many other cultural amenities during the late 19th century. In 1911, Adolf Hitler became dictator of Germany and began wearing a holster with his pistol while attending social events. This made him an instant target for criminals who wanted to rob or assassinate him without getting caught. To protect Hitler from potential assassination attempts, Heissen made holsters specifically for pistols that could be easily concealed inside jackets or coats. In 1990, the company was sold to Diamondback Firearms Corporation and ceased production.
Mequon is a town in the Fox Valley of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settlers in Mequon were Germans who arrived in 1836. They founded a small community on the east side of the River Mequon near present-day Freeburg. The name “Mequon” was given to them by General John Meeker, who had been sent by President Andrew Johnson to survey and assess land for potential development in what is now Milwaukee County. In 1854, two brothers named Claus and George Rasmussen started an agricultural store in what is now Mequon and it became one of the leading stores in the region. In 1865, they married Anna Lehman and within two years had built a home on South First Street which still stands today as their home office building. They also started a grocery store on North Second Street which continued to operate until 1974 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties. In 1895, postmaster James Brown opened his own mail service from his house on Third Avenue north of Main Street; this continued until 1922 when it was merged into the Milwaukee Mail Company's system under then-postmaster Elmer Whitehead. In 1934, white settlement began moving away from eastern sections of town towards western areas as businesses grew larger along with Highway 12 (now I-94). This led to many changes for Mequon as well; including annexation by Racine Township (1935), incorporation into Racine County (1941), redrawing of boundaries for that county following World War II (which included much of southeastern Wisconsin) (1945), and finally becoming a town again following vote by residents in 1960s referendum (#5802). Today, Mequon has a diverse economy with several manufacturing companies located throughout its downtown district including Kimberly Clark Corporation’s JBL division headquarters complex; Wabash Paper Products LLC.; Apple Incorporated’s A13 Technology Park; Schneider Electric AG.; Phelps Dodge & Sons., Incorporated.; KPMG LLP.—the latter four being among Wisconsin’s largest architecture firms with over 1,000 employees worldwide—and dozens of small businesses sprinkled throughout its neighborhoods including several restaurants and local farmers markets making it one of Wisconsin’s most vibrant towns center stage during any season! Mequon is a town in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. The name means "place of the meadow." Mequon was platted in 1851 by John W. Mehler and his brother Solomon Mehler. Mequon post office was established in 1852. The town annexation took place in 1855. Mequon is located at (41.688594, -87.415553). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,953 people, 527 households, and 478 families residing in the town. The population density was 83 people per square mile (33/km²). There were 614 housing units at an average density of 36 per square mile (14/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White and 2% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2%of the population
Mequon was founded in 1836 by Germans, who named it after the Mequon Creek. The first post office was established in 1837, and the town name was changed to Mequon in 1848. The first settler in Mequon was Wilhelm Reichart. In 1857, a railroad depot and other buildings were built on the current site of the Mequon High School. The town plat was filed on October 12, 1862, and construction began on the original school building on December 1, 1862. The first teacher in Mequon was Mrs. Anna J. Kappelbach. On May 2nd 1870, a fire destroyed two-thirds of the original school building but not before classes commenced for the summer term. On November 15th 1870, a new school building was dedicated with Classes beginning on September 30th 1870 In 1876 an addition to the existing high school blockwas constructed which became known as “The Tower” after its builder Drury Wm., Mayor of Milwaukee at that time On January 25th 1889 local citizens elected Fannie Muhlenberg their first female mayor On December 9th 1899 German immigrant Catherina Weber gave birth to her only child here at home
