Mequon is a town in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 6,623 at the 2010 census. The Mequon-Waukesha Bridge crossing the Kankakee River connects Mequon with Waukesha County. The town of Mequon was organized on November 3, 1854, by James Fenton and others as a preventative measure against the spread of cholera to their community of Mukwonago. On May 10, 1855, the first election for township trustees was held and all but one trustee were elected without opposition. David Mclntyre was elected treasurer and John Laughlin justice of the peace. On October 24, 1858, the first school board meeting was held in which it was decided to name the new school after Mrs. Maria Hargrave (Laughlin) who had donated land for that purpose. On February 2nd, 1861 (or April 12th), when Wisconsin became a state), Mequon became part of Waukesha County; however it would not become reorganized until December 1st that year when it changed its name to Mequon-Waukesha Bridge Township due to construction on this bridge over the Kankakee River being sponsored by then-Senator Isaac Aspinall (D). At that time there were only 7 residents in this township; however by 1870 there were 31 residents and 11 businesses located within its borders! In 1872 Simeone & Sons millinery store opened in what is now known as "The Old Mill". This store continued operating until 1914 when it closed due to fire damage suffered from a flood event caused by rainstorms. In addition to these business establishments there were several residences including two frame houses built around 1840: White’s House and Snelling’s House which are still standing today adjacent to each other on Main Street just west of State High School. Unfortunately both houses have been destroyed by fire multiple times over the years resulting in extensive damage! One other interesting note about Mequon-Waukesha Bridge Township is that many items found during archaeological excavations have been positively identified as having originated from here! For example an early 20th century farm implement discovered inside a house recently demolished in neighboring Mukwonago has been positively identified as originating from Mequon! Additionally some beautiful cesspool stones dating back to circa 1800 have also been determined to be from ruralMeqvonians!

Mequon, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 7,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Mequon was named after General James Murphy Mequon and his family, who were pioneers in railroads and lumbering in this region. The original post office was established on July 21, 1856, and was called Tomahawk Station because it served as the terminal for the Tomahawk Railroad between Milwaukee and Waukesha County. The first settler in Mequon Township was Issac Wilkinson near present-day Uniontown on May 25, 1836. Wilkinson had been granted land by Governor John Calkins under the Indian Treaty of Lake Erie which ended the battle for control over that sector of eastern Wisconsin between Native Americans and white settlers following years of conflict culminating with Arapaho Chief Lew Wallace's crushing victory over American forces at Battle of Hennepin Hills on October 14, 1812. With its location just south of what would become Milwaukee county line west of Menomonee Falls, Mequon quickly became one of America's most important railroad towns with its many passenger trains coming through from all over the country to connect with new mines and mills being built eastward along newly opened rail lines in central Wisconsin (and later Ontario). In addition to its role as a transportation hub both locally and nationally, Mequon also grew into an agricultural center due to its position as a crossing point for various trails running through rural parts of southeast Wisconsin; until recently these routes still led north out from downtown Milwaukee around Deerfield Park before turning east towards Sheboygan or Racine (the latter becoming Racine County whenMilwaukee County was created in 1932). Railroad tracks ran right up to houses until they crossed busy streets such as Jackson Avenue where streetcars now run behind local businesses creating unique retail districts today some dating back to days when only farmers could afford horses drawn carts loaded with produce directly to their homes! Agricultural production increased rapidly due to improved irrigation methods brought about by railroad development; wheat crops began arriving at market early enough so that grocery stores could get hold of them before they froze solid late winter months; butter started coming off dairy cows early enough so markets could buy it during warm summer months; eggs were laid way too late into winter so that people had nothing but baked goods starting December 1st! By 1907 there were already two local banks - First National Bank & Trust Company located on Water Street next door today’s Fidelity Bancorp - along with a few dozen houses lining Second Street just south side Main Street including many measuring 100 feet by 50 feet or more! That year construction began on what would become known as "The Great White Way" - Milwaukee's first ever paved expressway paralleling shoreline making it possible for large numbers more people than ever before access downtown without having to go down Market Street or cross Dearborn Avenue! In 1912 Chicagoan George Westphal donated land across from Madison Square Garden – now Yankee Stadium – creating what would become Madison Square Garden State Fairgrounds across from present day Northwestern High School which opened September 5th that year hosting three weeks worthof events including baseball (then known as “The Gopher Game”), wrestling (“The Big Ten Championship Wrestling Tournament”) and dances (circa 1915 billed as “Dances Around The Globe”). One night each week throughout those years major shows took place inside/outdoor venues throughout Downtown Green Bay featuring acts like Syncopated Searchers leading lady Lena Horne accompanied by her bandanna wearing Disciples Of Temperance local girls doing handstands while men stationed outside performed steel drumming etc... It wasn't long before other sports teams followed suit then high school football became Des Moines Iowas head coach Vince Lombardi's Alma Mater playing their home games outdoors at Present DAY US Cellular Fieldformerly Memorial Stadium before moving indoors for Super Bowl XIV then relocating once again outdoors for XVI.... Today much like then "Milwaukee Packers" moniker given decades ago reflects not only team name but proud history associated with city & vicinity
