On October 10, 1875 the Mequon Rifle and Pistol Club organized a pistol match against the Milwaukee Rifles. The matches were won by both clubs. In November 1875 the provisional name of the club was changed to "Mequon Rifle and Pistol Club." The new name reflected its growing membership of shooters from different parts of Wisconsin. On January 14, 1886 the original members of "Mequon Rifle and Pistol Club" met to form a subcommittee to determine what type of organization they should create for themselves; this subcommittee selected incorporation as an organizational designation for "Mequon Rifle & Pistol Club." Incorporation took place on February 6, 1886 with John Wetherbee as president and Isaac Sheffer as secretary-treasurer
Mequon, Wisconsin is a small town located in the state of Wisconsin. The population was 3,048 at the 2010 census. Mequon is part of the Iron County seat. Mequon was first settled by German immigrants in 1847. The name Mequon was chosen because it sounded like "meadow" and "creek." The community was founded on land donated by John Morse and his family. Mequon's first store opened in 1857. In 1865, the community incorporated as a village. The Village of Mequon operated until 1975 when it merged with the Town of Iron to form the current municipality. In 2000, Stephen JB Weisenbach became Mayor of Mequon after being elected to that position from the Township of Muskegon Heights. In November 2006, weisenthal appointed Tonya Pohlmann as Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Community Growth after she won a three-way race for Council District 7 against incumbent Barbara Lisle and future Mayor Joe Kappenauer who had run unopposed both times previous year
