In 1868, Mr. Holster sold his business to Wm. Laughlin and it continued under the Laughlin name until 1971 when it became known as Midland Armory. The first holster made in Menomonie was made by Jens Jacobsen and came about in 1865. It was a leather wraparound belt holster that allowed the user to carry his sidearm without having it show on his waistband. In 1876, John Cavanaugh started making holsters for guns and knives in town and soon renamed himself Cavanaugh & Sons Ltd., which is still in operation today. The first gun holster made specifically for pistols was made by John Haggerty of Haggerty Firearms Company in 1903-04-05-06, which is now Regal Arms Incorporated. From 1905 through 1923, pistol holsters were also produced by Sauer & Sohn of Milwaukee who became known as the "Guinness Gunmakers." Menomonie, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Menomonee County. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Menomonie was James Kinney in 1836. He named his land "Mendon" after his friend and mentor, Jonathan Mendonça. The name stuck and Menomonie became a local bank and post office with its own ZIP code until it was annexed by Milwaukee in 1898. Mendon's growth as a small town began with its position as the junction for six wagonroads that crossed the Racine River near present-day Wauwatosa. The village had two stores, an inn, a school and a printing press when it incorporated on July 1, 1857. By 1860, Menomonie had seven churches; five schools; four shops; one garage; three churches; two hotels; one storehouse; plus eighty-six citizens who lived in dwellings ranging from log cabins to brick buildings with half-timbered roofs or gabled eaves (the most recent being built in 1915). The Village of Menomonie was dissolved on January 1st 1959 due to lack of residents so that Menominee could annex into Milwaukee without breaking up their community first which would have caused loss of benefits such as pensions and other government programs they depended upon including fire insurance which came from menomenee property lines intersecting withMilwaukee properties

The first settler to arrive in Menomonie was John White. The population of Menomonie grew rapidly from its original few hundred residents in 1836 to over one thousand by 1870. By 1880, the town had a school, grocery store, blacksmith shop, opera house and hotels. In 1861 Menomonie became the base for the Union Army during the American Civil War and saw heavy fighting on its frontiers. In 1902Menomonie amalgamated with adjacent towns of Winona Lake and New Berlin to form the city of Milwaukee. By 1910 Menomonie's population had shrunk to just under two hundred residents and it ceased to be an important center of trade or culture. In 1993 Menomonie merged with nearby Racine County to become Racine County Community College District #2
Menomonie was a town in Iron County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,854 at the 2000 census. The community is now part of Green Bay.
